Reuters is reporting that the backpack found in Central Park, believed to be that of the UHC assassin, contained fake money and a jacket, but no gun.

(I've had the scene from the Thomas Crown Affair in my head all day, where they play Nina Simone's Sinnerman and Pierce Brosnan is joined by dozens of other men in bowler hats.)
Oh, sinnerman, where you gonna run to?
Sinnerman where you gonna run to?
Where you gonna run to?
All on that day
We got to run to the rock
Please hide me, I run to the rock
Please hide me, run to the rock
Please hide here
All on that day
But the rock cried out
I can't hide you, the rock cried out
I can't hide you, the rock cried out
I ain't gonna hide you there
All on that day

The backpack recovered by the NYPD that allegedly belonged to the suspect wanted in the shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, only had two items inside: a jacket and Monopoly money, sources with knowledge of the ongoing investigation told ABC News Saturday.
Investigators continued to comb through the city for evidence and clues for a fourth day to try and catch the unidentified fugitive. That included the use of police divers.
Officers searched a pond near Bethesda Fountain in Central Park, not too far from where the suspect's backpack was found Friday night.
Police have not yet recovered the distinctive gun used in the shooting.
It is unclear if officers recovered any evidence from the water.

(64,935 posts)Also, he'd been in NYC for some time before the shooting.
Most people would be lost who hadn't spent time there. Of course, he did arrive 10 days earlier so could have done recon and gotten familiar with his route.
Monopoly $$$ = oligarchs. In this case, I don't think it just refers to Brian Thompson. It would not surprise me to see more assassinations.

(26,666 posts)...letting him know they have his name is going to give him the same "advantage" as just saying what it is.
If they really wanted to catch him unaware, they'd have said that so far, they have absolutely no clue as to his identity.

Old link, but it is legal and, based on most cops I've met, they aren't the brightest bulbs on the Christmas tree.

(1,631 posts)It was pretty much a given, though, with his face all over for the past three days. Now the reward is 60K and the more added to that, the more tips will come in.

(38,419 posts)They get boatloads of bogus tips?
soandso
(1,631 posts)and trying to overwhelm them with false leads. Pretty sure someone who knows him must have also come forth, too. I know they must be using facial recognition tech and I wonder if they can search nationwide drivers license photos or if the angle of the pics of him prevent it. I do believe they know his name, though. Whether he'll be caught, I'm not so certain.
The bogus tips will assist the assassin by using police resources on dead end investigations.
In a strange way, many people seem to be rooting for the killer to escape, like the popular notoriety that Bonnie & Clyde or Jesse James enjoyed. If the authorities ever track down this guy, he'll possibly meet the same fate.
Or not.
What if he disappears like D.B. Cooper did?

(22,701 posts)they should just look for the names of people that recently had claims/procedures denied by UHC. That should narrow the list down to a few million people at least.

As evidenced by the roll of paper towels behind the front passenger headrest. Quite common. Also, the plexiglass partition, as a police car would have a cage between front and rear seat.
