Clyburn is another one who is so last century. We are fighting a different kind of war against the Republicans than the one he was raised in.
As long as there are leaders like Clyburn who are giving advice that metaphorically makes us look like wives who enjoy being beaten by their husbands, we're never going to get the upper hand.

(96,810 posts)inane. Trump incited a riot to try and overthrow an election. There is a huge difference.
If the Democrats are trying to completely self-destruct with their predictable circular firing squads, they are doing a pretty good job of it.

(1,439 posts)Yes, he should be bashed. He's dead wrong and I'm not a sycophant. No politician is infallible. No human being should blindly follow and/or defend a politician when he/she is in the wrong. Anyone endorsing to pardon Trump is not only wrong, they are a criminal enabler, anti-American, and a threat to our survival. Fuck all of them.
Docreed2003
(17,880 posts)does not equal "eating" him or turning on him. Pardoning Trump is a dumb idea and does nothing but reinforce his bad behavior. Additionally, it does nothing to unify the country. You might as well suggest giving pardons to the Jan 6th rioters while you're at it because it makes as much sense.

(429 posts)enshrine his guilt and psychopathy in the annals of history. A pardon means he is guilty. Now, Trump can refuse the pardon and wait to be declared innocent by a lacky SCOTUS and a mob of MAGAs sitting on a jury but Biden should go ahead and pardon him anyway. BUT NOT BEFORE HE ISSUES A BLANKET PARDON TO ALL HIS STAFF AND THE CONGRESS PEOPLE WHO SUPPORTED THIS ADMINISTRATION AND ALL THOSE WHO WERE WITNESSES FOR THE J6 SELECT COMMITTEE HEARINGS UNDER THOMPSON/CHENEY. Biden could include Trump as just another entity in the blanket pardon giving Trump no place above the others included in the pardon.
Irish_Dem
(59,696 posts)Trump is a dangerous, ruthless psychopath as are many of his fellow mob members.
A pardon is very dangerous as it will embolden them and make them much worse
and more violent.
You also are not taking into account the MAGA psychology either.
The MAGAs love Trump's crimes and do not think he should be held guilty for them.
The rest of already know Trump is a criminal.
A pardon only makes Trump and the MAGAs worse.
And in effect will end US rule of law forever.
PS. Writing an argument in ALL CAPS is a sign of a weak argument.
Makes people much less likely to take your comments seriously.

(14,515 posts)The meeting was arranged in secret. On Nov. 19, 2021, the chief of staff for South Carolinas Senate Judiciary Committee texted Dalton Tresvant, a key aide to Rep. Jim Clyburn, the states most powerful Democrat.
Hey Dalton - Andy Fiffick here, he said. We wrapped up some morning things quicker than we thought, so if you want/can come earlier than 1:30 were available.
"Facing the possibility of an unsafe district, South Carolinas most powerful Democrat sent his aide to consult with the GOP on a redistricting plan that diluted Black voting strength and harmed his partys chances of gaining seats in Congress".
The resulting map, finalized in January 2022, made Clyburns lock on power stronger than it might have been otherwise. A House of Representatives seat that Democrats held as recently as 2018 would become even more solid for the incumbent Republican. This came at a cost: Democrats now have virtually no shot of winning any congressional seat in South Carolina other than Clyburns, state political leaders on both sides of the aisle say.

(1,648 posts)Looking back, Scooter Libby looks like a choir boy compared to Trump and some of the criminals Trump pardoned when he was President. Cheney was p*sed that Bush refused to pardon Scooter Libby but Bush felt he didnt deserve it. Yes. Bush later commuted his sentence but that doesnt restore rights that a full pardon does. Guess who stepped in and pardoned Scooter Libby? Trump.
Im so sick and tired of Dems not standing for anything and falling all over themselves to seem the good guys. No pardon of Trump is going to heal anything, we arent living in the same world now that we were several years ago.
All pardoning Trump will do is: further weaken and disillusion the Dem base (we cant stand for justice), be used against Dems as it gives more fodder to the whole witch hunt crap, further embolden Trump and his criminals.
Clyburn has been right on many things, but on this one he is WRONG. I hope Biden stands strong.

(32,323 posts)Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) revealed that she does not want President Joe Biden to issue pre-emptive pardon before Donald Trump enters the White House and didnt like his pardon of Hunter Biden, either. Over the last week, reports have circulated that the president is considering pardoning critics of Trump, including Senator-elect Adam Schiff (D-CA) and retired NIH Director Dr. Anthony Fauci.
During a Sunday morning interview with former Joe Biden press secretary and current MSNBC anchor Jen Psaki, Klobuchar revealed she does not think Biden should issue those pardons, and that Schiff doesnt either. She also said she was not happy about the president pardoning his son.
I am not a fan of these. I didnt like the pardon of the presidents son. I didnt think that that was prudent. But I also am very concerned about this idea of the preemptive pardons. I am, of everyone, very concerned about what Trump is going to do with this Justice Department.
I actually spoke to Adam Schiff this weekend about this in anticipation that you might ask
he has publicly said that he does not want a preemptive pardon, that he believes that this is a nation of laws and that there are judges that make decisions all the time, including during the last Trump administration, including Republican appointees from many different administrations, who did the right thing in many cases under the law.

Joe has done enough by not pushing Garland to prosecute him sooner.
The damage to the "rule of law" by not prosecuting him timely is bad enough. A pardon is a bridge too far.

trump has already been defacto pardoned by doj/garland/corrupt six supremes. Why dig the knife in deeper and betray the base like that? Right now, we are mentally preparing ourselves for another disastrous 4 years with trump, and we're making progress, slowly but surely. It's absolutely disgusting that trump got away with his first attempt to overthrow our country. With all due respect Clyburn, I'm going to have to ask you to stfu about this. It's not cool. It's not ok.

Not to mention the hush money election fraud conviction.
The only result from pardoning Trump would be to provide the means for him to falsely claim his innocence and have the public believe him.
