Republicans lie when they say they want to run government like a business.Republicans want government to have the PURPOSE of a business: to generate profit for those at the top.
Republicans don't want government to be run with the same METHODS, TOOLS and PROCEDURES as a business.
If we want a government that runs like a business, first we would need to answer some basic questions:
1. What goods and services does the government provide?
2. Who are the Internal and External Customers of the government?
3. How is the quality of those goods and services defined and measured with respect to the Voice Of The Customer?
4. What are the Key Performance Indicators of a government, how are they measured, and how are they scored whether or not the government is doing a good job?
These are kinds of questions the Republicans INTENTIONALLY DEFLECT AWAY FROM by pretending that "running something like a business" is exclusively about profit instead of things like satisfied customers.
Here is another key-part of "running a business" that Republicans DESPERATELY do not want to see implemented in government:
risk-analysis.
Doing a risk-analysis is a perfectly normal thing that every business does before they make important decisions. There are different formats on how to do a risk-analysis: From quick&dirty&superficial to the EXTREMELY sophisticated and comprehensive formats used on the highest levels of industry and commerce, that reveal problems, risks and issues to you that you don't even want to think about.
"If I make this decision:
1. What problems could I possibly encounter?
2. Precisely how damaging would those problems be?
3. Precisely how likely are those problems to occure?
4. Which measures can be taken to pre-empt those problems?
5. How damaging would the problems be if I mitigate them?
6. How likely would they occur if I mitigate them?"
Just imagine if the procedure of a mandatory risk-analysis were to be implemented into how laws, regulations and budgets are written.
"Oh, you want to decrease the funding on that? Can I see your risk-analysis?"
"Oh, you want to make it harder to get abortion? Can I see the chapter of your risk-analysis on how this would impact the maternal mortality-rate?"
"Oh, you want to ban transgender treatment for children. Does your risk-analysis investigate how this would impact suicide-rates among teenagers?
The mere fact that Republicans would have to put their justifications into writing would drive them to madness. Which is why Republicans don't want risk-analysis in government: Because they want to keep things vague, non-factual and moldable.

Maybe it's not the methods, it's the mission ?

we can't "insist" on anything, can we?
Elections matter. Reality bites.
