(6,605 posts)Is there any less disgust for Eloon Musk today than before this murder?
I doubt it. And even if there is, Eloon will erase any sympathy COMPLETELY by springtime.
The Reich Wing hatred of George Soros NEVER waned no matter what happened. Maybe the MAGATs will eventually figure out the people screwing them over are the same people they voted for. Maybe.

(4,008 posts)to suggest that the shooter's actions somehow lessened the general angst most Americans feel towards not only the insurance industry, but corporate America in general.
The only culprits escaping focus being Trump & Co's billionaire MAGAS who've always been behind the corporate grift while simultaneously working to undermine protections for consumers.

(1,631 posts)and they believe in non aggression which Luigi blew with this murder. They also believe in individual responsibility and the right to freely make contracts and United Healthcare is a violator when it comes to contracts. I guess Luigi had reached the point where enough is enough, knowing that what's right is not respected in our legal system and with no other recourse for remedy, took the old fashioned approach to deal with a serious injustice.
I think we're gonna see a lot of "Free Luigi!" in the coming months.
I honestly don't know what's right here.

(31,174 posts)The Mangiones own several country clubs, including Haysfield Country Club in Hunt Valley, as well as healthcare facilities and real estate companies in the Baltimore area.
Luigi is the cousin of Maryland Republican Delegate Nino Mangione, who represents parts of Baltimore County.
According to our media partner at The Baltimore Banner, Luigi's late grandfather, Nicholas Mangione Sr., was a self-made real estate developer who owned country clubs, nursing homes and a radio station. His grandmother Mary, who died in 2023 from Parkinson's disease, was described in an obituary as a hospital benefactor and a music patron.
The Banner reports the Mangione family purchased Turf Valley Country Club in 1978, establishing it as a golf course resort and residential community. According to the Banner, family businesses also include the Lorien Health Services nursing homes and radio station WCBM-AM.

Their wealth is on a whole other level from his family, even if there's no doubt he benefited from them owning so many damn businesses.
The problem here is the very existence of the system, and health insurance shouldn't exist no matter what. It's an issue that transcends personal wealth, it's a matter of morality and social priorities.

(3,030 posts)are consistent with his statement "when all other forms of communication have failed, violence is necessary to survive." The murder has gotten society communicating about the ways our health insurance system is broken. Time will tell if anything changes unlikely in the current political environment but this action has garnered more attention than Kazinski's random bombings and overly dense manifesto.

(31,174 posts)Unabomber seemed to get more attention after he was caught.
Also his crimes would get people who answered doors etc, not shootings in crowded Midtown Manhattan.
If Mangione would have killed Thompson in MN, it probably would not have had the impact.

(34,569 posts)I agree that violence is sometimes the answer but at the same time, I don't want that for our country. There's enough violence in our streets. I just want our elected officials to finally focus on improving all of our lives.
Anyway, I think I called it correctly. Everyone was trying to turn him into some sort of hero but we've seen this before, except the others killed hundreds of innocent people to make their points.

(808 posts)I realize that the pearl clutches here have already pronounced a verdict, which seems quite illiberal. Whatever happened to a healthy asceticism about law enforcement, not to mention the liberal notion of trusting the judicial process. I wonder if, through such statements, NYPD and Joseph Kenny have biased any potential jury against Mr. Mangione already.
There's just too many unknowns here (as of this writing).
