Trump is an idiot to talk about Canada as one state. It has 10 provinces. Just sayin'.

(47,919 posts)Plus, there are elements of Canada, indigenous, English, French, maritime, western provinces. Not one of them would go along with annexation. Trump is trying to create Canadian Bacon with his blunt mind.

The entire world is theirs.

(70,989 posts)...the Meech Lake Accords, (I was going to & from Ontario for 17 or 18 weeks, the Maritimes were so concerned about Quebec independence that they were preparing paperwork to become a US territory.
But, that was 35 or so years ago. So, that open attitude toward "Americaness" may be long since faded.
Agree completely on the western provinces. No way they agree to it.

(13,712 posts)Literally and Figuratively.
Canada is a major ally and trusted neighbor, as well as a business partner.
If there's no legitimate reason other than vanity, pique, or whim, I'm pretty sure ordering the invasion and take-over of an allied nation without a declaration of War is something the Pentagon might just consider an unlawful order.
And frankly, unless there's an Amendment to the Canadian Constitution, invasion and conquest would be the only way other than, maybe a "USACorp" takeover of the Canadian Government.
And that ain't happening without a lot of rather obvious groundwork being laid in Parliament for a couple decades, which from what I can see is slowly trying to be pushed through Social Media.
Their Ronald Reagan hasn't been elected PM to start the dismantling of their social structure yet. That's when it might begin.
Just my opinion.

(2,214 posts)But it's a dog whistle to his minion's to start a new shit storm. He wants to impose Marshall law, and is building some sort of fake narrative to expand his power. Could be Canada, it could be some more southern border lies, but he is collecting a nest of adders, (and I don't mean accountants.) There is a rationale for collecting every conspiracy asshole he can find and giving them all cabinet positions.

We're wasting our time even considering it.

(26,666 posts)As it would instantly become the second-biggest state in the nation after California, with, potentially, 49 electoral votes, and a general dislike of Trump. It would practically give Democrats a lock on the White House for perpetuity.
OTOH, if they were accepted as ten different states, you'd wind up with places like Alberta, which is basically the Oklahoma of the north, and would be guaranteed red.

(5,222 posts)is no-where near the right-wing US states. As an example, our last provincial government was the NDP (New Democratic Party) which is commonly considered here as being "socialist".
That said, I seriously doubt that any Canadian province would not vote Democratic and, by a wide margin.

Never going to happen. I would be happy to join Canada, but I am sure Canada is not going to allow that ever so instead eventually we will be moving back there. Hopefully, well be safe from the orange psycho there.
