everyone in power cares.

Children shot to death at school? Just another day in 'Murika.

So, the difference is that a CEO (probably an MBA too) was someone who we're supposed to cherish as an icon of "American exceptionalism". Non rich people (including our children) are the price the moneyed class are willing to pay for their lifestyle.

NOTE: I am extremely pessimistic these days. I don't see how our country survives this as a Democracy. We're headed to dictatorship and there seems to be no way to stop it. So, take my words with that lens in mind.

It said "Eat one billionaire and the rest will fall in line".

NOTE to those who will not see this as humorous: I am not condoning cannibalism, nor am I saying we need to murder billionaires, it is a comment on how fucking powerless we are if we aren't one of them. Right now, billionaires are poised to take everything from us, because they don't feel that they have enough.

Apparently we’ve had non-stop 24/7 coverage of “the hunt for the dastardly CEO killer”, and “the capture of…”, “the booking of…”, soon to be followed by “the trial of…”, and this is literally the first information I’ve received about a 5 and 6 year old shot in their school?

They do have an actual body, which we can assume is not mangled and is easily identifiable. If you want to be presumed dead so you can disappear, the best way to do that is not to leave a body behind that can be identified as being yours or not.

“Facts About Missing
And Murdered
Indigenous Women”

“There is widespread anger and sadness in First Nations communities. Sisters, wives, mothers, and daughters are gone from their families without clear answers. There are families whose loved ones are missing—babies growing up without mothers, mothers without daughters, and grandmothers without granddaughters. For Native Americans, this adds one more layer of trauma upon existing wounds that cannot heal. Communities are pleading for justice.

“The National Crime Information Center reports that, in 2016, there were 5,712 reports of missing American Indian and Alaska Native women and girls, though the US Department of Justice’s federal missing person database, NamUs, only logged 116 cases.”

There should be an enhanced penalty to anyone who attacks the rich.

That includes doing anything to undermine or limit their Constitutional Right to make a much money as they can, in any way that they can.

Musk is on the right track now, currently suing businesses for not advertising on his internet platform. How dare they deprive him of income? Bezos should sue consumers who don't buy from his platform, and healthcare companies should sue customers who appeal claim denials, and oil companies should sue people who buy electric vehicles.

I'm afraid if we don't make them a protected class and show the respect they deserve then they will all move to Dubai.

Think of their historical contributions to our society. Where would we all be without the pioneering vision of our extremely wealthy? Who would rule over us if they weren't with us? Where would we be as a country if there were limits on extreme wealth?

“For just over five days, our NYPD investigators combed through thousands of hours of video, followed up on hundreds of tips and processed every bit of forensic evidence, DNA, fingerprints, IP addresses, and so much more to tighten the net. We deployed drones, canine units and scuba divers. We leveraged the domain awareness system, Argus cameras and conducted aviation canvases.”

lest the peasants get any ideas about looking sideways at capitalism.

Giving himself up in a McDonalds was perfect. Granted he may well have mental illness going on, but he is undeniably very intelligent. He sat in a McDonald's with mask off so someone could call him in. Witnesses to everything. Can you imagine the outcome if the police had hunted him down in private? He is white and male so he may yet stay alive to make it to NY for trial. We'll see.

The bosses of this country don't like it when we're uppity. As someone who grew up in a wealthy family, he knows that better than anyone.

36. Man in Queens found shot dead behind store
Wed Dec 11, 2024, 12:35 PM
Dec 11

With a quick search, I found this, about another murder by gun that occured about a week earlier in the same city:
https://www.amny.com/news/queens-shot-dead-november-24-2024/

Queens detectives are looking for the gunman who shot and killed a man early on Sunday morning.

Police sources said the murder happened at about 3:04 a.m. on Nov. 24 in the rear of a store at 1025 Beach 20th St. in Far Rockaway.
...
So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation, police said. The motive for the shooting is unknown, police sources said Sunday, as is the description of the shooter.

I don't see anything about a nationwide manhunt, no massive police presence searching the area, no pouring over security footage from the area, no $50,000 reward, no fleet of drones searching for clues.

I understand why the killing of the CEO gets more media attention, but why does it get more police resourses? Because a rich person's life is more important?

they could immediately search for him and use drones. It was also on a busy street, which meant it got immediate public and media attention. I don’t think there really was a “nationwide manhunt” — they just distributed photos and had someone trying to track his movements from NYC.

In the case of the 3 am shooting, it’s unclear whether there were any actual witnesses; there may not be any surveillance footage, either. In that case, it’s harder to launch an immediate search of more than the few surrounding blocks (if they want to).

The reward was put up by UHC, I believe, rather than the police. Of course, most families can’t put up a reward like that, but it’s not a police matter.

Not saying there weren’t differences/disparities, but I think they’re more down to media coverage and wealth/notoriety, which is a story old as time. If it bleeds and is famous, it leads even better. We have enough shootings that only the really “noteworthy” ones are heavily discussed.

37. The corporate class is deathly afraid of a peasant uprising.
Wed Dec 11, 2024, 12:38 PM
Dec 11

The news media and police spared no expense to locate this shooter simply because his actions represented a threat to this country’s corporate class. They viewed this individual as a sort of Robbin Hood figure with the ability to trigger a wider peasant revolt or copycat actors (which is why they will go all out to make an example of him too).

This situation has some historical parallels to the 1901 assassination attempt of President McKinley by an anarchist named Leon Czolgosz (McKinley died later from gangrene brought on by the gunshot wounds). Interrogators tried to paint Czolgosz as mentally ill. They did want the official story to be that of a sane man who felt it was his duty to eliminate McKinley. According to history, they even went as far as desecrating his body at burial so no one could dig him up and make a martyr out of him.
