to publish and certify the ERA.
He wants to NY to pardon Trump from his fraud case and he has joined Truth Social.
I was never a big fan of his but this is too much.

(95,287 posts)Im currently glad I was never blessed with granddaughters (news article posted here today about mothers and infants testing positive for drugs that the mother was given during labor and delivery) . And oh yeah, the Justice Departments division that was once devoted to DEI is now going to be devoted to rooting it out.
Never really cared that much about Fetterman except as a fellow human, but he sure had a fan base here at DU.

However, I think when he had the stroke, it changed him. It's a dam shame.

Wonder why they did the study. Were there unintended side effects?
I guess I should Google it.

Good grief, I was not expecting this! This is devastating.

(8,570 posts)His bending over to appease MAGA now is going to look especially stupid when the inevitable backlash to MAGA comes in the next couple of years, then he will be stuck trying to pretend like he was against them all along, while those of us Democrats that he needs for his base of support will not forget how he showed his ass.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Casey primary him and beat him, although I'm sure there are other very capable Democrats that could also challenge him.

(1,184 posts)Many legal experts believe the Amendment is valid and should be implemented. There is nothing in the Constitution that prevents it. There is nothing to lose and so much to gain.
Polybius
(18,360 posts)It was written with an expiration date, and it's happened before too.
It's a flaw in our Constitution that shouldn't even be necessary. Every Amendment needs an expiration date of 15 years max.

(18,360 posts)And in the case of the ERA, there was.
Quiet Em
(1,184 posts)We are talking about human rights. C'mon, the Congressional compensation Amendment took over 200 years to pass. When 3/4 of States ratify it, it becomes part of the Constitution. The ERA reached that in 2020. Time to get it done.

(18,708 posts)The subject we are talking about doesnt change the facts.
Polybius
(18,360 posts)Waiting 200 years is absurd. What if 37 states passed the Federal Marriage Amendment in the 90's? Then all it would take is one state to still ban gay marriage forever. At least support states being able to rescind.

(323 posts)Hes a right wing nut. But Fetterman is a smart guy. When he was a local politician here, he didnt align with the more progressive politicians. He did a lot of good when he was Mayor of Braddock. Hell do us well in the Senate. I trust him and most Dems to stop the lunacy were expecting the next 4 years.
Then, he has to win an election.

(46,862 posts)She deffo has 'Sinema-without-the-crazy-fashion-sense' potential.
Sinema was a Problem Solver too, before she moved from the House to the Senate, and she worked with her ex House Problem Solvers mates (as did Manchin) to help gut over 5.1 trillion USD in new spend from Biden's 6.1 trillion USD new spend frameworks for both his infrastructure bills.
I was so disappointed that so many of the better (IMHO) candidates (in alphabetical order: Jocelyn Benson, Pete Buttigieg, Garlin Gilchrist, Andy Levin, Mallory McMorrow, Dana Nessel, and Gretchen Whitmer) did not run against Slotkin in the Democratic US Senate MI primary.
Whitmer and Pete may well run for POTUS in 2028, so that is likely why they declined (Pete also had only been a MI resident for a couple of years, since July 2022), and Benson will likely run for MI Governor in 2026 to replace Whitmer (who is term-limted). Given all that, I would have vastly preferred Nessel or McMorrow over Slotkin, but also would have preferred Gilchrist or Levin as well, granted to a lesser level.

(1,513 posts)... "Senator Fetterman, what has Trump got on you?" You might ask the same question of Peter Welch. The Monday before the election, he said rather too emphatically, I thought that, sure, Trump is dangerous, but not to democracy! Wanna walk that one back a parsec or two, Pete?
Peter is one of my senators; the other, of course, being Bernie. I've met, and spoken with, both of them. Peter and I are the same age, and I've always liked him, but that remark disturbed me deeply.
It is common knowledge that Trump always, ALWAYS, keeps a dossier on every politician, especially every Democrat, in Congress. He learned that from his mentor, Roy Cohn. He undoubtedly keeps a pack of rats excuse me, private eyes on retainer to dig up dirt on every one of 'em.

(13,321 posts)I'm so sick of this stupid blackmail conspiracy theory for literally EVERY SINGLE POLITICIAN
GiqueCee
(1,513 posts)... you would know that it is not speculation, it is a statement of fact. That strategy was a favorite of Roy Cohn's from his days as an attack dog for Joe McCarthy's House Unamerican Activities Committee back in the early fifties. And he was, indeed, a mentor to Trump.
Do your homework, and then do the math.

(1,928 posts)whatever has infected Manchin for all these years has jumped bodies now that he's leaving. Manchin is now making noises about term limits for Supreme Court Justices.
Fetterman is starting to sound like Manchin.
It seems to prefer Republicans (the number of about faces with regard to Trump is staggering) but seems to be able to infect Democrats from time to time......possibly Fetterman's brain damage from the stroke presented an opportunity.
What that says about Republicans isn't great.

(2,435 posts)I've asked twice now for people to name one "bad vote" he has taken as Senator, or one piece of legislation he has been responsible for it failing. Of course I have gotten ZERO responses because people can't name any actual action he has taken as Senator which has been harmful to the Democratic Party.
How about we find out why he didn't sign the letter before we condemn him? He wasn't the only Democratic Senator not to sign. Tina Smith & Michael Bennet didn't sign either. Both Smith and Fetterman have strong supporting language on their websites for the Equality Act. They are clearly not opposed to the ERA. I have a feeling this is much ado about nothing.

I really don't get the arguments against it. It is what has literally saved women from inhumane, life threatening, horrendous bans in many States. The courts can use this as a tool to save more lives, but some act like it's frivolous. SMH.
