Wisconsin father who faked his death returns to U.S. after fleeing overseas

Father of 3 Accused of Faking His Own Death in Kayaking Accident Is in Custody in Wisconsin: Reports

Ryan Borgwardt — the father of three accused of staging his own death in a kayaking accident — is reportedly in custody in Wisconsin
The 45-year-old man was previously presumed to have drowned after his capsized vessel was found in Green Lake in August
Green Lake County Sheriff's Office confirmed last month that they'd received a "proof of life video" from the man, who was reported missing by his wife Emily on Aug. 12
A Wisconsin father of three accused of staging his own death in a kayaking accident is in police custody, according to multiple reports.

PEOPLE reported earlier this month that Ryan Borgwardt, 45 — who was previously presumed to have drowned after going kayaking in Green Lake in August — had resurfaced in Eastern Europe and had sent a 24-second-long "proof of life video" to authorities on Nov. 11.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, Dec. 10, Borgwardt was then booked into the Green Lake County Jail, outlets including the Associated Press, CNN and ABC News reported, citing the Victim Information and Notification Everyday system. No charges were listed, according to the publications.

and they started in 1933 and were forced into bankruptcy in the early '60's. Had several different models. Well respected in Germany and Europe. They did sell some here and in South America. A Mexican businessman bought production equipment there and kept producing until 1970 according to the Wiki page. Grandson of Borgward tried to bring it back to life in the 2008 startup that tied into the Chinese and they had saleable vehicles beginning in 2017 but went bust by 2022 according to the Wiki page.

and see they made a crossover SUV in 2016, in conjunction with the Chinese. Never heard of the brand before. It doesn't look like they were sold on the US market.

I first became aware of the brand when an Army vet I knew had done his stretch in Germany in the '50's and then come back. He was a big fan and had one.

On top of grieving his fake death, they probably got the life insurance payment and will have to pay it back!
