..as an excuse to for not taking a stand against Trump.
This is not breaking news to DU'ers but it is a f'n crime against Democracy, the Constitution and Humanity for a United States Senator to confirm a wacko like Kash Patel for any position in the Executive Branch of the government; or Hegseth or Gabbard or Kennedy or any of the obvious election denying, fascist leaning, ever-Trumping sickophants. Everybody knows what Trump's plans are and full well know what Patel will do as FBI director...
They (senators) all took an oath to serve, protect and defend the Constitution. There's nothing in their job descriptions prioritizing keeping their Senate seat or seeking/keeping a GOP majority in the Senate Chamber. The decisions they make are supposed to be for the greater good of the country; not for the f'n personal benefit of a narcissistic fool President.
If they had acted without fear or favor the first time around with Trump, they'd have voted to convict the bastard on the second impeachment (for sure) and we'd be done with the psycho, sociopathic fool.
Gawd, how I detest politics and politicians...

(102,511 posts)No doubt half the MAGA Qongress are on Murdochs payroll and those that arent are going to get replaced with those that are. Look at what they did to Liz Cheney when she dared to stand up against the cult. She got heckled, primaried, and replaced with a MAGA Qultist who shouldnt be there. Things are going to get real ugly when he takes office.

(49,195 posts)constituents. Tell them I was given a choice of voting on their behalf for their interests or to risk being primaried. And I chose to be loyal to them and to The Constitution.
Or is that naive?

In that respect, we're all naive...
I suppose there was once a time when "public service" was pure and unadulterated but now it's mostly about getting elected or reelected. Elected (many) officials appear to be more interested in political careers than government service; particularly at the federal level. They want the power or the prestige or the money (top 10 percentile earners) or a future run at the White House.
So, the actions and decisions of our lawmakers are greatly impacted by strategies to win the next election...

(102,511 posts)The thing is, this isnt 2016 anymore. We know who Trump is, and what he stands for, and his intentions for this country are for the worst and utter dogshit. We have to do whatever we can to stop the worst of his policies from going through.

(2,613 posts)..when he doesn't play by the rules and the Dems do. And the Dems are not going "to do whatever they can" to stop him. The courts will be the last stand.
I'm hearing on MSNBC today that many of the people on the "hit list" are saying, "Bring it on..." including Jack Smith, Liz Cheney, General Milley and Kinzinger. They don't want pardons...they want a courtroom.
Bravo...

(2,613 posts)..is the fact Trump and MAGA got to this point purely as a result of what Trump would call "leverage" in making a deal: fear, threats and intimidation.
Democrats can't reciprocate to that.
