Trump says bringing down grocery prices is 'very hard' after vowing to cut costs on the campaign trail

With just over a month until his return to the White House, President-elect Donald Trump said in a new interview it's "very hard" to bring down the cost of groceries for American families, raising questions about one of his key 2024 campaign promises.

In an interview with Time Magazine for its Person of the Year spread, the 78 year old was asked whether he would consider his presidency a failure if costs don't come down for consumers.

"I don't think so. Look, they got them up, I'd like to bring them down. It's hard to bring things down once they're up," he said. "You know, it's very hard."

"I think that energy is going to bring them down. I think a better supply chain is going to bring them down," he added. Trump on the campaign trail repeatedly said he believed cutting regulations and other challenges for the energy sector could bring down prices across the board for Americans without providing details.

However, making grocery prices go up is very easy.

Suckers.

The United Brotherhood of Teamsters REFUSED to endorse Kamala Harris, thinking tRump was their guy.

Guess what Teamsters.....tRump WAS NEVER your guy. Your Union is going to suffer under tRump as prices skyrocket of Groceries, other Consumer goods, etc. As your pay will not rise with Inflation either.

... the necessities.

Of course, that won't happen because the GOP wants to keep the electorate angry about the cost of living. They do this by lying to the very voters they depend on by not raising the minimum wage.

They DON'T care if you struggle to survive as long as you stay angry and vote against your own best interest because you listen to the lying bullshit they feed you on right-wing mainstream media. Starting with FOX.

start up massive tariffs, so that'll make the prices go up.

Plus his "mass deportations"....the MAGAts expect that there will be no brown people around within a couple of weeks.

Yes, I have heard this....they even think he can "send all those N.....'s back to Africa where they belong".

Mental note: Never go into a small town diner mid-morning if there are a bunch of older white men hanging out there. It is soul-killing to hear this kind of shit.

Now that he's elected he can pre-program the stupids that voted for him to accept that he can't deliver on his campaign promise.
Of course it's the Democrat's fault...always is.
Food prices will actually go up because of his tariff, and the deportation of millions of immigrants who work on farms and in factories that process foods and prepare them for the market place. Again, he'll blame the Democrats for it.
Trump's brain-dead Magat base won't ever understand how he's screwing them. Even as they see the economy deteriorate, and inflation rise, they won't connect it to his policies. At least not until long after the damage is done and they've suffered the effects of all the havoc he wreaked.

Is Donald Trump going to succeed in lowering grocery prices? In successive weeks, the president-elect answered the question in two very different ways.
https://bsky.app/profile/stevebenen.com/post/3ld4pnzlrks2g

Trump on Meet the Press: "We're going to bring [grocery] prices way down."

Trump to Time magazine: "I'd like to bring them down. It's hard to bring things down once they're up. You know, it's very hard."

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/comes-grocery-prices-trump-suddenly-changes-tune-rcna183958

But the president-elect concluded his thought by saying, “We’re going to bring those prices way down.”

That was the message the public heard on Sunday, when the “Meet the Press” interview aired. Four days later, Time magazine published the transcript of its latest interview Trump, which included a rather pointed question: “If the prices of groceries don’t come down, will your presidency be a failure?” The president-elect replied:

I don’t think so. Look, they got them up. I’d like to bring them down. It’s hard to bring things down once they’re up. You know, it’s very hard. But I think that they will.

For context, it’s important to emphasize that the interview was conducted on Nov. 25. In other words, shortly before Thanksgiving, Trump told Time that it’d be “very hard” to lower grocery prices, and he wasn’t sure whether he’d be able to achieve that goal. The following week, the Republican sat down with Welker and publicly committed to bringing grocery prices “way down.”

In the same interview, Trump added that he “can’t guarantee” that his trade tariffs won’t actually raise prices......

In other words, before Election Day, the Republican struggled to talk about his plans for grocery prices, and that hasn’t changed in the election’s wake.

Supply chain not an issue. What other excuses will he claim. US already leads in oil production. It was never about the price of eggs or gas.

...on his desk that says "Make Economy Gooder" that he refuses to push. And of course, Trump will definitely be the President who will push that button--which in his case will be right next to the "Bring Diet Coke" button, I suppose. These are also the same brain donors that complain interminably about how lousy the economy is, yet they always seem to have the money to visit the diner so they can be interviewed by cable news reporters.

...if the economy is so rotten and everyone is broke, how is it that so many MAGA chuds are able to sit idle at "Fred's Typical Ohio Diner" all day waiting for Steve Doocy to show up and interview them about the crappy economy? Furthermore, if the economy is indeed so abysmal, why is everyone paying extra for breakfast at the diner, not cooking it themselves?...

...I guess you could call this the Schrödinger MAGA economy, where chuds can complain about how they apparently want a USSR-style market ( where Biden has a button he refuses to push that says "Make Economy Gooder" ), yet the economy is firing on enough cylinders that the chuds can still find enough coins under the mattress to make it to the diner for a few bon mots with Steve Doocy...
