Can I just say the overuse of the word "woke" by rightwing media and rightwing organizations and Republicans in general, to disparage anything and everything, is really getting fucking old. I'm tired of these fascist bullies using that word as some sort of cudgel. Enough is enough. This is a hill I'm willing to die on. Especially if that dying at least means I never have to hear that fucking word again.

(28,405 posts)"Woke" means being aware of and attentive to important facts and issues, especially those related to racial and social justice. For example, someone who is "woke" might be concerned that some groups in society are treated less fairly than others.
No idea why they dislike it. It's like they're offended by the thought of equality. Guess it threatens their white privilege.

(10,020 posts)But it has now been weaponized by the right and they are now repeating it ad nauseum and I'm just tired of hearing it. I mean everything from the movies I watch to what I eat for breakfast is "woke" and I'm just done. Let's wrap it up and move on.

Until you own the word woke, and align its meaning with being more like Jesus's teachings, we are probably going to lose this battle too.

(10,020 posts)That word needs to be burned out of existence.
It's been overused so much and used to bully and browbeat people and organizations that there is no path to rehabilitate that it

If you run away from woke, you're essentially saying that you're running away from the Democratic commitment to supporting minority causes. Own it.

(10,020 posts)I just do not see it as a positive upside to progressives using it. They will just use it to poison people against you. We need to fight it with by mocking them and humiliating them and belittling them for using such a stupid word. We need to make it so toxic that people just laugh at anyone trying to use it. We need to start taking the fight to them and stop with "take the high road" stuff.

It matters because it will show the internal problem we're dealing with, coming together as a united party.

(2,616 posts)...for which he shills--for the creation of that "snarl word". "Woke" has been overused to the point that it has lost its original meaning, and that very overuse has stretched the term to the point of meaninglessness. When the term is now bandied about by ranting priests on radtrad Catholic networks like EWTN and Relevant Radio, it's safe to say that "woke" is deader than disco.

And we don't have to hear about anyone being too old to serve in public office anymore. Another issue that is no longer heard about since the election.
