Just a bit late but people had to do the FO part. Now the people who voted to leave want back..
buyers remorse, big time. A lot of Brits were unhappy with the new visa requirements when they were used to free travel before. Not to mention the economic consequences for small business and farmers.
This will be fun. Since European leaders aren't totally on board and a lot of the populist, far right, parties are Euro sceptical.

There is a remarkable consensus on both sides of the Channel that the time is ripe for a reassessment of EU-UK relations, it concluded, with closer relations being the most popular option in every country surveyed and public opinion on the question well ahead of government stances.
Based on polling of more than 9,000 people across the UK and the EUs five most populous countries Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Poland in the weeks after Trumps election win in November, the ECFR study found the strongest enthusiasm for renewed ties were in Britain.
Perhaps the most striking finding was that 54% of Britons who voted leave, including 59% of voters in red wall seats, said in exchange for single market access they would now accept full free movement for EU and UK citizens to travel, live and work across borders.

(11,918 posts)I live in the UK on a visa. I qualify for an Italian passport, for which I'm in the process of applying. If this becomes reality, bye bye expensive and stupid visa processes for me and countless others.

with all non Trumpers also being hurt due the actions of the Trump voters?
You can't have it both ways.
If Sweden disallows dual or more citizenships, we (my wife and I) will have to leave and move to another EU country that does allow multiple citizenships, as we will not give up our UK citizenship, yet we want to retain full EU rights as well.
I also am a US citizen (via jus soli), but would forfeit that before my UK citizenship or EU standing.

(61,137 posts). . . and that the full-immersion shitshow is inevitable for everyone, now matter how they voted. Recognition of that inevitability doesn't mean I'm "fine" about it, since I'll be living it myself, in case that hadn't occurred to you.
It's just that the pained squealing of MAGAts/Brexiteers over the next four years as things unwind is almost certainly the only soupcon of justice on tap for citizens of the UK and the US who didn't have their heads up their butts over the past decade.
And if you have a problem with my taking some small satisfaction with that prospect, then sue me.
Have fun in Sweden, or wherever.

Political realities sometimes offer up no good answers to that. IF (highly, highly unlikely) Trump and the Rethug's machinations do not cause massive hardship, and especially (even more unlikely) IF they end up having a net positive effect for the majority of people, that will only serve to further aid their political takeover of the nation.

(35,010 posts)to fix the border problem in N Ireland. The UK will have to eat shit now and not get the sweetheart deal they had with the EU when they first joined.
Old Crank
(4,851 posts)That may happen sooner than expected.
There are about a third of voters who don't belong to the two parties set up in the Good Friday agreement and want change.

(35,010 posts)They had a perfect solution with the EU open border and the UK voters fucked it all up.
They are as dumb as our voters.
