Mediaite - YIKES: Just 17% of Americans Approve of Pete Hegseth Pick

A new survey from the Associated Press and National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago suggests that Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Department of Defense, has almost no popular support.
According to the poll, only 17% of those surveyed said that they approved of Hegseth’s nomination, while more than double, 36%, disapprove.
Director of National Intelligence-designate Tulsi Gabbard and would-be Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. are also unpopular, boasting underwater approval ratings of 21%-29% and 30%-42%, respectively. Trump’s nominee to serve as secretary of state, Marco Rubio, is more popular at 31%-31%.
In general, just 27% of the public is confident in Trump’s “ability to appoint well-qualified individuals to his cabinet and other high-level positions,” while 55% say they are not confident. The poll of 1,251 American adults carries a margin of error of 3.7%
The results are particularly bad news for Hegseth, whose chances of being confirmed have been impaired by a series of scandals, including a sexual assault allegation and rumors about a drinking problem.

The vast majority of American people don't even know or care about Hegseth, so this 17% means nothing.

Everything in America is under attack. They are not there to uphold the Constitution and the law. They are being nominated to destroy it.

(16,478 posts)3. And yet public opinion has little to no effect on cabinet confirmations.
What Repug Senator is looking at these poll numbers to decide how to vote? They are 0% worried that any voter will cast their ballot in the next primary or general based on a cabinet confirmation vote.

The message I'm getting: Democratic resistance (such as it is) represents about 1/3 of the population. We'll have to do much better to win in 2026, assuming elections are still a thing.
