It seems that people really started abandoning Morning Joe when they heard about the bended knee
Mara Lago trip that Joe and Mika made and then tried to sell on air.
I have been watching Morning Joe since 2017, but when I woke up the morning after the election and heard
Joe announcing that Trump's victory was "Reagan like" I didn't see a maps so I started wondering, did he win 49 states? As we now know after all the votes were counted, his victory was actually quite mushroom sized (i.e. very small-3rd smallest since 1888 and he won a plurality not a majority, the majority voted for someone else for President).
I was shocked as to why Joe would be saying something so patently false comparing Trump's victory to a landslide, esp. when he won 6 more electoral votes than he did in 2016. Something didn't smell right. Then a few days or a week later, we heard about the obeying in advance trip they made to Florida.
I was truly shocked that even Joe could be lulled into the con that is Don the Convict.
Good riddance...

(1,776 posts)It's not just his ratings.
Maddow's ratings also have dropped significantly since Trump won. Her ratings are down 45% since Trump's election.

(3,016 posts)...because it's the only network I trusted--at least 3 of the journalists: Nicole Wallace, Rachel Maddow, and Lawrence O'Donnell. I just don't have the bandwidth for any media at all right now. I'm just taking care of myself now and I am so, so, SO sick of hearing about TSF from ANY source. I just can't take it anymore--at least for now. DU is the way I take my news now so I can filter it as much as I need to.

(3,016 posts)I just can't view anything right now. People with broken legs don't abandon walking. They just take time to heal before resuming the activity the way they did in the past.
Self Esteem
(1,776 posts)A loyal viewer would watch through thick and thin. You abandoned MSNBC. You might come back to it. But you abandoned it.
Your example doesn't work because breaking a leg precludes you from walking. It's not a choice). You are making the active choice to not watch MSNBC.
I'll admit I am not a loyal viewer. I don't watch MSNBC and haven't since probably 2012.
Trueblue Texan
(3,016 posts)...and a different measure for loyalty. Watching any news is too painful right now and would throw me entirely off balance mentally, much as walking on a broken leg would be painful and compromise balance. You sound judgmental. Is that your intention?

(1,776 posts)I think it's perfectly valid to not want to watch MSNBC (whatever the reason). But if you're not watching MSNBC, you are not a viewer. It doesn't matter how frequently you watched it in the past or when you plan on returning. At this time, they're not a viewer and that goes to the overall point that so many seem to be missing: MSNBC is hemorrhaging viewers. Guess what? Of those Nielsen viewers who have stopped watching Rachel, they don't continue to count 'em as viewers just because they watched her religiously every day for the last ten years.
seems like you are. Hes very clear

(1,776 posts)No more than pointing out someone who is jobless is unemployed. That isn't judging them or their situation. This person can claim to be a loyal viewer but they're not watching so they're not a viewer and therefore not a loyal one. And that's fine. Maybe in a few months when they return, they can go back to loyally watching MSNBC. But they're not doing that right now.
And it's hurting MSNBC. It's not just Morning Joe. It's every single show who now has lost a huge chunk of their viewers.
Maybe that come back but if you're a fan of Rachel and those other shows, just hope that when they do, Rachel hasn't been canceled or MSNBC sold to Elon.

(4,707 posts)I cant stomach it right now.
I was ingesting MSNBC like delicious desserts every night leading up to election night. When I turned off the TV at 1AM on November 6th, in tears and shaking, I couldnt think straight.
My thoughts have been:
What good would it do to return to listen to my favorite pundits? What were they going to tell me? That it would be OK after they had filled me with hope? And had told us how bad another Trump presidency would be? Or were they going to say its gonna suck and well be here to bring you all the horrid details that none of us can control.
I just cant. I get my news online from reputable sources. Ive taken my pension out of the stock market and have it in a safe money market type account until I see things settle down. At 70, if we have another 2008 crash, I wont live long enuf for it to recover. I pray we dont lose SS and Medicare.

(36,424 posts)That does not negate the fact that the original source, Fox News, is a right wing source. There may be some facts in a story that are reported correctly, but there is also typical right wing spin in this article as in others. See DU TOS.

(8,558 posts)1) I don't have cable anymore, and MSNBC doesn't offer a legal stream.
2) I need some space from this. I poured a great deal of emotion into this election and it broke my fucking heart. I need some space to realize that my country is NOT what I wish it were and that will likely never be so again within my lifetime. I will be back at it, and I'd watch Rachel wherever she is.... in a little bit. Still need some space.

Of course if you compare him to others in congress today, he comes off as an elder statesman. How far downhill we have come.

(6,477 posts)Joe and Mika have always chosen the 'right words' to appeal to the perceived major sections of their audience.
A little voice in their earpieces told them the 'right words' have changed.
They were always talking heads voicing someone else's opinion.
Sorry if you thought they spoke words gentle to your ears most sincerely and from the heart.

On the day an employee, Lori Klausutis, died tragically inside his Fort Walton Beach satellite office, the young Republican congressman engaged in feisty debate with Democrat Anthony Weiner and cast several votes, including one taken not long before the U.S. House adjourned at 9:49 p.m.
Scarborough was hundreds of miles away from Fort Walton Beach when Klausutis, a woman he later told reporters he hardly knew, died. Yet 17 years later, the mention of her name never fails to drag Scarborough into conversations laden with conspiracy theories.

(34,519 posts)I'm writing this chapter differently than the last. I cannot start my day off hearing about trump and his antics.
I remember the previous trump term. I would start off every morning wondering if trump was still... healthy... The first show that I would check was Morning Joe. I don't want to waste any more of my life doing that.
If trump checks out during the night, I'll learn about it, probably immediately because everyone knows how much I hate him and my friends will be happy to deliver the news through calls and texts.
I'm slowly allowing myself to watch a little bit of trump coverage at 4:00 p.m. and later hours. But not in the morning. It's not really personal, Joe, but sorry, I gotta go. Also, the one time I tuned in post-election for like 5 minutes, Joe was going off on viewers. Not a good look, at all.

(60 posts)I am actually watching the weekend addition right now.
I dont really have an opinion about their meeting with trump. I take them at their word until they give me reason to believe otherwise.
One thing Ive noticed over the decades is that certain elements of the party cant deal with people that tell them the hard truths about things.
As far as Im concerned. I like having upsetting news delivered by their team. They always find a way to make it seem less doom and gloom. When people only listen to information you what you want to hear, you arent consuming news, you are consuming propaganda.

(18,723 posts)Ok.... Tune-In is an Audio App with music, news, sports, pod casts, and more. Stations from all over.
It's for your phone, and possibly other devices.
I have it on my phone.
It has a free version, and I think 2 different paid versions.
The free version has ads. When I upgraded to a paid version; a short news cast replaced the ads. That got annoying to me so I went back to the free version.
You get the whole shows of MSNBC. 👍
I also listen to my local WNYC-AM/FM public radio, and a few music stations.
Wikipedia has a big article on them to learn more about their services, etc.
Hope this helps!

And they sacrificed for us, the audience, because a closer relationship to Trump means they can put on a better, more honest program. All for us!
