GOP Rep says Americans would celebrate cutting food stamps

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) (Freedom Caucus Msmber)on Friday said Americans would celebrate cuts to the federal budget by the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE – including a crackdown on food stamps and Medicaid.

The comments came Friday during Roy’s appearance on CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” where he called on “the DOGE guys” – billionaires Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy – to identify non-defense discretionary spending that can be slashed.

If we were to go through and just put in restraints on the use of food stamps to feed our people sugar, for example…we can save hundreds of billions of dollars,” Roy, a conservative member of the House Freedom Caucus, told the host. He added other examples such as repealing the Inflation Reduction Act and a “return to non-defense to pre-Covid era explosion in spending” to also help reduce spending.

OP - I believe this sums up the position of many Republicans. They hate to pay taxes to support people who they believe don’t work, especially if those people are not white. They claim to love Jesus, but feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, healing the sick, and welcoming the stranger just isn’t their thing.

1. Really? Not Trump voter Lori Mosura.

After backing Trump, low-income voters hope he doesn't slash their benefits

Lori Mosura goes to the grocery store on a bicycle because she can’t afford to fix her Ford F-150 truck.

The single mother and her 17-year-old son live in an apartment that is so small she sleeps in the dining room. They receive $1,200 each month in food stamps and Social Security benefits but still come up short. Mosura said she often finds herself deciding between buying milk or toilet paper.

It was all that penny-pinching that drove the part-time tax consultant to abandon the Democratic Party this fall and vote for Donald Trump.

“He is more attuned to the needs of everyone instead of just the rich,” Mosura, 55, said on a recent afternoon. “I think he knows it’s the poor people that got him elected, so I think Trump is going to do more to help us.”

4. That article was just unbelievable...

...and yet very believable at the same time, especially if you know any MAGA chuds.

Even worse, she's probably going to lose her health care through expanded Medicaid (assuming PA isn't one of the states run by chuds that refused to take ACA funding). The MAGA chud politicians are just thrilled with the opportunity to destroy healthcare for the poor, and that's not something that's easily replaced if it goes away.

Mosura reminds me of the MAGA chud who got upset because "Trump's not hurting the right people!".

Especially when they hear that billionaires will be rescued from paying taxes at all.

When Trump said, during this recent campaign, that he 'didn't need their votes', that may have been the one time he was telling the truth, because the Oligarchs fixed this pesky election stuff from now on?

Ascribing power to Trump that he doesn't have is self-defeating.
