The city put on a New Year's Eve fireworks display.

We’re in a drought and it’s so bad that we’ve entered Stage 3 water restrictions. So, it was no surprise the falling embers caused a grass fire which burned over 40 acres and caused ferry service to our island city to be halted.

I hate to criticize my local governmental officials, but…

The entire West has been dealing with drought and wildfires--making those vital firefighting teams and materials a very precious commodity. The other states have at least TRIED to work together to implement threat reduction activities that likewise conserve water, including fireworks restrictions, but Abbott? Hell no. His policies on the electrical grid have likewise caused the rest of the region to pay more. Two years running 9.5% increases annually being put forth. Xcel is bailing out Abbott's failing policies in this regard and the rest of us get to fund the idiocy.

I have nothing but contempt for Texas' leaders & governmental officials on at least the state level if you haven't guessed, but it is not without ample justification.

Colorado was once red and now pretty bright blue, so I still hold out hope for Texas, however fleeting.

of course, to avoid any Federal regulations. The current offer for electricity is 13.9 cents per KW for a one year contract. Governor Abbott is promoting crypto and "mining" uses a lot of electricity.

Yes, the GOP controls all the levers of power in the state. We get our hopes up that we might get a little purple, but those hopes have always been dashed. Maybe a Trump presidency will turn the tide.

When I looked outside, some cars were driving away and I thought it was foggy outside until I saw smoke rolling about a foot or two up off the street.
It was a lot of smoke.

This was in Hollywood, Ca where we haven't had any rain for a long while now. We had a spattering about a week ago but it was insignificant.

I do not know why they always come to our street. It's got a nunnery at the end and you can only turn right. It's a short street but they always come here or do drive-by fireworks out of their cars into our neighborhood. It's a mix of apartments and houses. It makes no sense.
