General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe Border Patrol is on a Montana Rez today
I lived and worked there for 7 years. I do not recall ever seeing them on the Rez, although they have HQ. close by as it’s close to the border, would see them routinely when hunting the area.
The Tribal Chairman, who was a friend and patient of mine and a great guy, is counseling the Tribal members to remain calm and carry Tribal ID, etc while they adjust to the “new normal” his words. His words also: ‘ we will work with them to get the illegals off our homeland”
This is due to the problems they have with meth and fenty I reckon.
I think Federal agents are allowed there, when 3 of my patients were gunned down by Mexicans, the place was crawling with FBI agents who caught the shooters ( they were teenaged Mexicans)
The Tribal police have hell of a time dealing with the meth slingers

(7,725 posts)The Tribal chief of police was also a friend of mine. They were overwhelmed
My experience is that every man woman and child there was co dependent on the the Meth problem, even us health care providers
It’s in the families, the villages and workplaces. Whether you are 2 or 92 years old
It’s not just a Native thing but rural US problem
I work for a new tribe now and it’s a thing but this Tribe works with state and local police for better law enforcement
Plenty of non natives around here are into the poison
Shoot even my own brother is a hop head

(6,826 posts)I didn't know it was this bad everywhere.
It really makes me sad, that this is where we are as a country. We can not cope with the unlimited wars, combative politics not working for the people, that spend most of their lives working and still can't afford much more than paying the bills to live.
It is hopelessness disease. People are checking out.

(6,625 posts)Because it sounds like getting rid of violent drug pushers is a good thing.
Not being snarky or the like.

(7,725 posts)The Natives are like the rest of us
For us health care folks specifically the anti-science stuff and attacking NIH grants is a huge concern
And that hop head Kennedy is boss of IHS now
And Trump has animosity towards Natives
The clinics run on grant money for all kinds of health issues especially diabetes which is endemic in Natives

White Supremacist network busted with enough fentanyl to kill over a million people.

(7,725 posts)Again the Police chief told me that they knew who the dealers were. They could stop them, seize drugs money and guns, but had no authority to detain. They could only give them a warrant for the state and kick them off the Rez
They just kept coming back
And the users knew who they were too which was a bigger problem

(23,592 posts)They're making moves to get the land away from the tribes.
Everything with them is about raping, pillaging, and, ultimately, enslavement of as many humans as possible.

(37,390 posts)land and put on what they thought was waiste land. Now they want that land. It is hard to imagine
what is going on.
I used to get really pissed whenever I saw someone trying to whitewash the truth of how the white man stole this landmass from those who were here first. It reminds me of that bit about flags by Eddie Izzard. "No flag, no country!" As if the fact that the settlers had a piece of fabric to wave around made them more important.

(10,744 posts)The Native Americans didn't have a "BORDER PATROL" hundreds of years ago when the MAGA's relatives were immigrants.....
And what the hell is the "Border Patrol" doing there? Where the hell is the DEA????

(1,718 posts)... but the Orange Shitstain will ignore that, I'm sure. How can someone so evil hold office here? Well, it's not the land of the free now, if it ever was. It's the land of greedy oligarchs; we just live in it. Until they start herding us like livestock into dormitories that make Alcatraz look like Club Med.
If I remember correctly, the French had a similar problem 236 years ago (Let them eat cake?). They dealt with it using an instrument of notable finality. *I'll bet there are plans for one on Youtube.

(7,725 posts)They were from Southern California
My coworker was Aunty to 2 of the victims
She told me drugs
I knew one of them was on drugs from my clinic work and yeah he was a rough sorta fella
Their uncle was in jail and owed the dealers money
She said the cartel wanted their money or we go after family
And they did
I don’t know the outcome. They were teenagers like 16 yrs old
This happened 2 days before I left the Rez

(6,488 posts)It's always too risky to do any kind of business with them, best to steer clear no matter the payoff. The cartel members I have known were always friendly and personable, but I wouldn't trust them for one second if money was involved.
Goes to one thing about how pervasive the poison is. Affects everyone.
Their own Aunty knew they were on a wrong path, probably a lot more people too. Powerless to intervene
Now I recall the cops called the shooting as
“ a targeted hit”
They got set up on a phony drug deal and guns started a blazing
