in a memory care facility. The office staff was American but the people who actually cared for the residents were all immigrants. They did such important work that most Americans would never do such as changing diapers on adults.

a couple days ago asking people to “stop with the sky is falling bullshit.”. Offensive to say the least. For many, the sky has fallen or is about to. For others, the fear of it falling is paralyzing. We are talking about our fellow humans who have ZERO power in this game. Their fear and pain is palpable.

"The first step toward fascism is people telling you that you're over-reacting."

I'm a middle-aged straight white dude with a semi-recession-proof job and relative financial security. If I were an asshole, I would point and laugh at others for "over-reacting" to the very real daily threats and deliberately-imposed hardships that they face.

As is the chaos. They want the public afraid and confused, even despondent. Easier to get people to walk the line, their line.

Authoritarians always need an enemy. Right now it's immigrants of every shape and size because they telegraphed the hate early, incessantly.

But eventually the real target will come into view-- every American who doesn't bow, scrape, bend the knee to these cranks.

Yes the fear is real. And we can each do something.

And I say that not knowing that that’s completely true, but if the message, if the thought and media coverage of them doing all these things isn’t covered, then they don’t get the bad negative image from doing that.

I keep hearing from reasonable honest people who voted for Trump (with the preface that they aren't very political) who are clueless what he is about. They don't know much about J6, aren't worried about SS, spell out the difference between Republicans and Democrats in the most basic terms (Democrats give to the poor, Republicans give tax cuts to the rich but still buy Reagan's trickle down theory...)

They aren't concerned about climate, freedom of speech, and don't understand what fuels the price of eggs. They just aren't paying attention.
