NFL 'running scared' of Trump and Musk ahead of Super Bowl with Bluesky ban

The NFL risks alienating fans and accusations of “running scared” from Donald Trump and Elon Musk ahead of Super Bowl LIX after it banned teams from posting on X rival Bluesky, say industry watchers.

But neither team is allowed to connect with American football fans on Bluesky, which has 30m users, because the league has refused to approve the social media platform.

It comes after Trump returned for a second term as US president, backed by billionaire Musk, who bought Twitter in 2022 and renamed it X.

The National Football League will stencil the phrase “Choose Love” in the back of the end zone at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans for Sunday’s Super Bowl LIX (59) game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.

“The Super Bowl is often a snapshot in time and the NFL is in a unique position to capture and lift the imagination of the country,” NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy told CNN in a statement.

“‘Choose Love’ is appropriate to use in the Super Bowl as our country has endured in recent weeks wild fires in southern California, the terrorist attack here in New Orleans, the plane and helicopter crash near our nation’s capital and the plane crash in Philadelphia.”

According to The Athletic, this will be the first time that “End Racism” is not used in the big game since 2021.

where their mouths are - so to say.

ALL of them should refuse to comply unless there is a valid reason given by owners besides that it will displease Musk. There is no way that they should lose their freedom of speech.

I'm not a sports fa, but this is abrogating their 1st amendment rights.

Did the owners vote for this, or is this just from Roger Goodell? If it's just from Roger Goodell the headline should say that.

Go Eagles and I'm not a fan of either team.

The Pats were the first one's told not to post on or before that date. This isn't exclusive to the SB but it is exclusive to BS.

I think it is the height of insanity for Trump to even think of attending the event.

It's Ford's Theater all over again.
