If the only reason a Republican Senator or Rep continues to vote the way Trump wants them to is because they're afraid

they need to get security or resign. These are the people who can vote to send others to war, they have no excuse to be cowards.

Though I'm sure with some it is with select members. A lot of it is fear of losing. Most politicians want to be re-elected more than anything else in the world.

I think most trumpsters get off on deportations, foreign aid cuts, trans related EOs, owning libs, bullying other countries, and worse. They like action, even if smoke and mirrors. But, if 5% to 10% of his voters get disgusted with trump’s crud, things could change.

And there are limits to how much candidates will risk in elections. At least I keep telling myself.

Votes as long as they kiss up they won't need votes. Look at Magatana, NONE of the US reps or senators hold public events that we can attend or speak with them. We only exist to make it look like we voted for them, the warm body effect. They harass you with junk mail if you complain to them about anything.

As I've said before, if you want to see the peach tree dish for their end goal, look over here at Magatana.

Just look at all the wheat farmers screwed for at least 4 years or until USAID is restored.

We use to be part of the bread basket for the world. Now it will be cheap land for sale with low taxes.

I still find it hard to believe that they get a pension for doing a couple terms in Congress. We really need to return to the original premise of citizens serving not career politicians serving. I first noticed this when Hilary was shopping around for a Senate seat to occupy - never really noticed before.

Every 2 years in the house and every 6 in the senate. You don’t like them, vote them out. Tester got beat, Casey got beat, Brown got beat, Manchin got out before he got beat, and the pension thing is bullshit. Members of congress are part of the same pension program as federal employees.

The problem isn't making a career of being an elected official.

The problem is the pernicious influence of money in politics, and the extent to which voters are misinformed and/or disengaged.

That why Vance/Trump attempting to purge the civil servants is so bad. Replacing them with MAGA types is bad for the nation. Plus it (to me) sends a message that he does not intend to leave the office.

The problem isn't the number of years in office; the problem is the inherent corruption of dark money influence in the form of campaign finance.

Like most complicated jobs, it takes time to reach a high level of performance and experise. Term limits would force out our elected officials before most of them get good at their jobs.

If we don't eliminate the pernicious influence of money, what we'll get is short term opportunists serking favor from big donors and lucrative positions after leaving office.

But none of this will accrue to the public good if voters are misinformed and/or disengaged. Ultimately we have to hold our elected representatives accountable.

. . . another reason -- one, I submit, that is more likely in the case of most Republicans -- is that they are enjoying the power grab. They haven't been able to advance the agenda they have wanted for the past 40 years by legitimate means, so they are happily embracing illegitimate means to get what they want!

Your post gives them FAR too much credit!

Then, follows the philosophy of less regulation, lower taxes for the rich (trickle down) and whatever other bullshit they claim to stand for.

Their biggest fear from losing their seats, comes from a maggot who claims to be more maggoty than they are.

I direct you to the N.J. Primary for Governor. The election is this November. The Repuke candidates held their first debate and it was covered by the remains of the Star-Ledger and on D.U.

The arguments were about who loves Anal Fistula the most. REALLY ! That's what they argued about.
