Taking Jackie Robinson off of the DOD site along with the Native American coders is just too much for minorities to take. We are approaching a new Jim Crow. Every day it gets worse. The form is different but the objective is the same. Women have also had their distinguished history taken away.
It can be argued that breaking the color barrier was as important as MLK. It was the crack that started us to TRY to make the country live up to its constitution.
Ask a conservative to name a time that they ever helped minorities stop discrimination in any legislation. They are the people who supported segregation.
I have one wish and that is Trump and Musk get cancer and they start to understand cancer research and medical research and that is the hope of every cancer patient to extend their lives.

(109,066 posts)to be totally used by Trump and R's. A couple of people overtly disavowed their vote for Trump, but as I said, some seem to still be "tiptoeing" in that direction--even while they see the promised political amnesty revoked and their friends deported back to Maduro's Venezuela.
But as painful as that, there is zero reason that African Americans, most other Latins (certainly not Mexican Americans) should have been fooled. And damn it, I get the cult behavior of some (mostly white married Republican) women, but damn if it doesn't pain the hell out of me after Roe v Wade and all the other atrocities toward women that he got the votes he did. That really really pains me.
I could bow over in contempt--but that does nothing to help the situation. So, now he is actively dismantling primary-higher education. "Keep 'em dumb and they will believe anything they say." Sigh...

(2,698 posts)To summarize from a Cuban who is mid aged and studied political science:
Democrats messed up in several ways, especially when Castro died. Apparently some of our leaders like Karen Bass and Bernie Sanders made comments about Cuban healthcare and literacy advancing under Castro. That was an affront to the Cubans.
Calling Trump a dictator but then publicly normalizing some of his policies rang hollow to many Cubans and Venezuelans. These are people whose life and world view have been shaped by dictatorship. Castro for Cuba and Chavez and Maduro for Venezuela. If you fled either and then you hear someone praise some aspect of their regime it’s going to hurt you. Moreover, the FL Democratic Party had a clumsy announcement about the embargo hurting Cubans without actually pointing out that Castro is what was hurting Cubans. Again, it rang hollow. There are other examples.
I can speak on this first hand. I’ve been married to a 2nd gen Cuban for 30 years. My spouses’s parents and family fled Castro during the revolution. For them the Revolution changed everything. Fortunately, my wife and her parents hate trump. They are the exception, however. There are some in my married family who have fallen prey to the right wing talking point that Dems are communists. So, there’s a little part of me who can see where the Democrats tripped up. Remember, Hillary carried Miami-Dade County by 30 points. We can retake the county with work and the correct message. Normalizing ANYTHING about Castro is a no go. It would be like saying at least Hitler built the autobahn. That’s horrible and would never be done.
