Dems Double Down on Fundraising From SpaceX and Palantir Lobbyists

Last edited Mon Mar 24, 2025, 10:32 AM - Edit history (1)

https://readsludge.com/2025/03/20/dems-double-down-on-fundraising-from-spacex-and-palantir-lobbyists/

They’ve done it again. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has taken in another $1.3 million from lobbyists at Invariant—the bipartisan firm representing Trump-friendly companies SpaceX and Palantir—according to a new FEC filing. Hot on the heels of the $2.5 million it took from the same group of lobbyists in January, this latest haul shows House Democrats’ campaign arm is more than comfortable cozying up to the very corporations thriving under the administration they say they are fighting.

Invariant, the highest-paid lobbying firm for both Elon Musk’s SpaceX and the Peter Thiel co-founded Palantir, has now bundled nearly $4 million to the DCCC since the beginning of the year.

And it’s not just House-side Democrats raising money from the firm. According to a post on LinkedIn, Invariant hosted a fundraiser for the Senate Democratic leaders last month as well, where its cadre of lobbyists likely helped to bundle big bucks for leadership members like Chuck Schumer or potentially the Kirsten Gillibrand-led Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC).

We really won't be able to get mad at people who say "the parties are both the same!" anymore.

Entrenched corruption within our system of governance is unfortunately all to common. The optics of this are horrible indeed.

Nonetheless...

We have dealt with corruption within the Democratic Party before.
We are still dealing with corruption within the Democratic Party.

These are indeed strange bed-fellows.

Time will tell how this all plays out.

I reject defeatism as a coward's concession.
We have not even yet begun to fight.
These are all mere skirmishes.

It's a long road ahead.
Stay your course.
Fight your fight.

...don't understand the reality of our current situation if they are willing to take money from rightwing donors knowing what expectations come along with those donations.

Edit to add:

I also worry that we will continue to lose voters if we are not being the Party that Americans want (need) us to be.

Indeed it is the case that there are many steps to take.

Here's the article I just posted to General Discussion:

Trump and his allies threaten America as we know it, but they are acting from a position of weakness, not strength

A closer look at the goals of Trumpism can help us get perspective and devise strategies that aim straight at its vulnerabilities

From the article:

First, there is the threat of Trump himself, a man who aims to attain dictatorial powers and to overturn American democracy. Because Trump is a sociopath bent on retribution against a host of perceived enemies arguably broad enough to encompass the entire American population, he himself is a danger to the republic.

Second, Trump has been propelled to office in part due to the allegiance of a far-reaching reactionary movement that seeks to restore traditional hierarchies of power (racial, sexual, religious), and that views him as an ally. Including white nationalists and conservative Christians, this movement’s goals go beyond the political, into a desire for a vast reshaping of a modern society that has imperfectly tended towards greater equality and freedom for most. This movement has achieved tremendous political influence both through its alliance with Donald Trump, and through Trump’s thorough takeover of the Republican Party.

And third, we’re experiencing an uprising of the wealthy against ordinary Americans, embodied most concretely in Elon Musk’s self-serving rampage through the federal government. We could say that these forces seek to accelerate the inequalities of American society by funneling ever more money (and power) to those who are already hideously wealthy, and to further reduce the power of American workers.

Much more could be said about these interrelated threats to American democracy and freedom, but this brief sketch helps us understand a few basic points. First, that we are experiencing not only a crisis of democracy, but of our free society and of an economy that serves the great majority of Americans. And more than this — we are not simply experiencing a crisis, but a crisis perpetuated by malevolent actors whom we can identify and by discredited ideas that we can refute. It is not only a political crisis, but a moral crisis, and an economic crisis. Unless we reckon with its multi-faceted nature, attempts to reckon with it are akin to fighting with one arm tied behind our backs.

Can't they do one thing right? NO MONEY FROM MUSK OR THIEL. That is the bare minimum this party should do...and they failed.

Clearly the DCCC cares more about reelection than it does about principle or fighting fascism.
