Canadian bookings are down. Americans owe it to our Canadian friends to help boycott!

My comment - we owe our Canadian friends to help bring down Trump. I’m closing my wallet on this economy as much as possible.

Canadian travel to the United States is plummeting as tensions over President Donald Trump's actions appear to fuel a growing boycott of America as a vacation destination.

According to aviation analytics provider OAG, forward bookings from Canada to the U.S. have fallen by more than 70 percent for every month through to the end of September compared to the same period last year. April has seen the steepest drop, with just 296,000 bookings, down 76 percent from 1.3 million.

Why It Matters

The steep decline spells difficulty ahead for the U.S. tourism sector, which heavily relies on travelers from Canada. The over 20 million visits made by Canadians to the country in 2024 contributed an estimated $20.5 billion to the U.S. economy and supported around 140,000 American jobs, per the U.S. Travel Association.

The statistic also suggests that the U.S. trade war—and the antipathy it has generated between the two historically friendly nations—will impact aspects of the economy beyond those directly affected by the imposition of tariffs.

Canadian dollar has never been cheaper. I did see a notice at the grocery store saying US currency is not accepted, so change your money and/or use your credit card.

Canadians like Americans (almost all of them) as people.
Canadians loathe American Republicon government
Canadians distinguish between American persons and US government.

Vacationed twice in Banff and the people couldn’t have been nicer, kinder, and more genuine. They tripped over themselves to help the Florida people with snow skiing. So many fond memories.

I am so embarrassed to be an American right now. I openly rooted for Canada in the hockey tournament a couple months ago.

I have NO problem with Canadians booing my National anthem. Should they cheer it after what the Orange shitstain in the White House has done? Boo as loud as you can. The world must unite against Trump!

People from Canada could post where they had been planning to go and connect online with people who actually live there. Those folks would take pictures for them showing that the Canadians weren't there. My imagined caption for the pic could be something like "Here we aren't visiting X."

This should not be a replacement for lost jobs. It being a free and voluntary exchange would also be a statement of solidarity between the people of the two countries.
