Trump voter feeling the tariff pain

Had a conversation with a professional woman who with her husband have heavily invested in the construction of a new facility. She voted for tRump because she hates Biden and Harris. As usual no evidence as to why.

Anyway they are getting cost overruns because of the tariffs. The latest is the rising price of steel.

It's hard to understand her repuke support as she is quite intelligent and educate, with wide ranging interests.

We ended our discussion without rancor. Her young assistant who stayed behind quietly telling me she agreed with me. That eased some of the sting.

I do think that as time goes on, there will be an increasing softening of hard hearts.

Although according to this snippet, the tariff sword of Damocles is a destabilizing issue.

Factors Driving U.S. Rebar Prices

Scrap Price Surge
Stable scrap prices in January shifted to a $40-50/t increase in February.
Low scrap stockpiles and harsh winter weather have contributed to rising costs.
Steel Mill Price Increases
Nucor and Gerdau Long Steel North America raised prices by $30/t in January, followed by another $40/t increase in February.
Buyers were divided on whether the increases would last, with some expecting stabilization.
Trade Policy Impact
A 25% tariff on imported steel under the Trump administration created uncertainty in the market.
Mexican and Canadian imports slowed, increasing reliance on domestic production
