The US Right is coming for disabled people. Here’s why that threatens everyone

Trump’s administration is dismantling disability rights and education. History has shown this can be a warning sign for all civil liberties

The Nazis frequently described disabled people as “useless eaters”, “empty human shells”, and “life unworthy of life”. They chose these labels to evoke images of people who were incapable of doing anything, and so needed to be kept in institutions for their entire lives, wasting the tax dollars of non-disabled people.

Recall that Trump is the guy who mocked the disabled reporter.

Elon has made the term "retard" acceptable and uses it himself on X. He calls people who rely on government funding "parasites."

This is the Republican party today.

And let me remind people that a budget is a moral document.

A political party that does not feel the government should play a role in protecting the least amongst us (because BILLIONAIRES need their tax cuts) is a degenerate and morally bankrupt party.

They're coming after Social Security Disability Insurance. They've been talking about that for decades, how they think a good portion of disabled people are not really disabled, they're just lazy. This is what they mean when they say "fraud in Social Security".

And if Musk has anything to do with it, it will be race based discontinuation of benefits.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act guarantees individuals with disabilities the right to a free and appropriate education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE). The services and educational programming are supposed to be designed to enable the individual child to make MEANINGFUL progress. The bill also provides for early intervention services for infants and toddlers.

To appoint such an IGNORANT and INCOMPETENT person to head and then destroy the Dept. of Education is yet another indication of the utter contempt the Trump administration has for education as a whole but more specifically for students with disabilities.

My grand-daughter is a special-needs child. She's been labeled legally blind and deaf on one ear (like her grandmother) . Though nearly five-years old, she's not spoken a word yet due mainly to being tubed, and then trached up until last fall. She's bright knows her letters and numbers, can identify any animal or object you throw at her but obviously she'll need continuous help with speech and her educational needs going forward.

If these funds and programs are cut, Cassandra's opportunity to lead a functional and independent life will be greatly reduced. The idea that anyone would suggest eliminating this vibrant, ever-smiling little girl makes my head explode.

There are plenty of mothers and fathers and grandparents who will hit the streets to protect these children.

They come for our babies, we come for them!
