Sad we ran out of time and couldn't see everything, because a whole lot will be gone before long.

(18,085 posts)museums will be irretrievably broken.
But, I bet some billionaires will get to pick priceless artifacts to show off in their homes....because that's where we are now.

(464 posts)... being lost to us. I'm also thinking of the National Gallery.
As a former art history student, getting to see all of these things that I had previously only seen as slides in a classroom? I wasn't really prepared for what it was like to see them in-person. Everyone should have that opportunity.
And again, to get to see those things for free? All of these horrible, horrible things are happening and this, along with the ivy from the Oval Office, on top of everything else, just put me over the edge.

Someone better save these priceless objects quick:
Harriett Tubman’s shawl and hymn book (c. 1876)
Nat Turner’s bible (1830s)
shackles used for an enslaved child
a slave cabin from Edisto Island, S.C.
a pocket copy of the Emancipation Proclamation read from by soldiers bringing news of freedom to the U.S. Colored Troops
freedom papers (c. 1852) carried by a former slave, Joseph Trammell

(8,032 posts)there are no words to express the breadth of damage these psychopaths intend to do, but it's also so predictable.
Who and what will protect our greatest national assets from these fascists psychopaths?
Only a fantasy novel or film can create the imaginary hero's to save the day.
If only our fearless leaders during the Biden admin would have taken measures from day one of Biden's administration to safeguard the tyranny that surely threatened to assume power in the near future, which is now our present times.
And of course it was predictable. all of this was predictable in early 2021.

(65,888 posts)Without the Church we wouldn't have the masterpieces we can see today. Leonardo and Michelangelo come to mind. And Rembrandt for one of the greatest paintings ever made: The Return of the Prodigal Son, IMHO. Rembrandt had good friends in the Jewish community.

(4,973 posts)But it says the perpetrators feel like victims, which is not the case now
The unifying factor between all types of purposeful book-burners in the 20th century, Rebecca Knuth says, is that the perpetrators feel like victims, even if they’re the ones in power. Perhaps the most infamous book burnings were those staged by Adolf Hitler and the Nazis, who regularly employed language framing themselves as the victims of Jews. Similarly, when Mao Zedong took power in China and implemented the Cultural Revolution, any book that didn’t conform to party propaganda, like those promoting capitalism or other dangerous ideas, were destroyed.
