(153,146 posts)Of course the midterms are more important. Are we supposed to ignore any and all threads about 2016?
Of course not.
So, easy does it, OK?

(712 posts)She or any future President can't have a VP with such a difference in thought on political beliefs.
Hillary is very close to being a moderate republican in a lot of things she supports.
MADem
(135,425 posts)That's why she gave him money to help him win.

(712 posts)They are opposite on almost everything.
Bernie is the guy any Democrat in the house or senate can rely on when they have a vote
on anything that has to do with Progressivism .
You need people like that for certain votes , Hillary knows this. Some of her ideas are progressive but then others are very
shall I say Republican.... Bernie is the type Hillary could never has as a VP.........no way
Hell she would but heads enough with Elizabeth as a VP never mind Bernie .
MADem
(135,425 posts)Sure, she likes him, and she wanted him to WIN.
I don't think you know HRC or Sanders as well as you imagine you do.
oneofthe99
(712 posts)I'm not going to get in a pissing match with you about Hillary.
I don't want to see her as President but if she wins the primary then I'll vote for her of course.
Damn it's not a secret that she is a supporter of Big Banks , the huge pharmaceutical industry and their lobbyists,
NAFTA , the South Korea , Panama , Columbia free trade agreement Obama signed.
This was a huge win for corporations to move even more jobs out of America.
If you want to believe this is creating jobs in America , so be it
MADem
(135,425 posts)She gave Sanders and two others DOUBLE what she gave the rest.
That's a matter of public record.
Yet you continue to suggest that there's no convergence between them.
If you want to believe they are adversaries, so be it...

(135,425 posts)give you the full flavor of the import of the donation:
http://socialistworker.org/2006-2/610/610_11_BernieSanders.shtml
Sanders in turn backed Democrats against third-party alternatives. In the election to fill his House seat, he and his supporters helped dissuade Progressive Party hopeful David Zuckerman from running, and went on to support the Democrat Peter Welch, who eventually won.
Sanders' endorsement of the Democrats no doubt helped him build his war chest of about $5 million, over 80 percent of which came from out of state.
To put an exclamation point on his all-but-declared membership in the Democratic Party, Sanders celebrated his election victory, contrary to his tradition of hosting a separate party, with the Democrats. He has promised to caucus with the Democrats in the Senate, and the media thus takes him for granted as part of the new majority in the Senate....
Her PAC donation was in his top twenty list

Here's how I would rate the two candidates:
Hillary would probably support (at least tepidly) 1, 4, 5, 6 -- total of 4 out of 9.
Paul would probably support 1, 3, 4, and 9 a little. That's about 4 out of 9.
Really, we deserve better than that.

guess which one.
BlueStreak
(8,377 posts)I would trust Hillary to nominate people who are far to the right of Kagan and Sotomayor. Clinton appointees would probably be corporatists. But Paul appointees would be flat out libertarian lunatics. So I'd have to give the edge to Hillary.
The reality is that we probably will not have any practical alternative to Hillary and our real opportunity for progress is to elect her and then work like hell to make sure she feels the heat from the left every day of her Presidency.

(8,377 posts)It should not be close, but it really is.
There are certainly plenty of other differences no listed on these 9 points, but frankly, I side with Rand rather than the DLCers on a few of those.
The point is that we ought to be holding candidates' feet to the fire on the most important issues and not let them just get by with vague rhetoric.

(10,893 posts)I'd rather vote 3rd party. Me voting for motherphuckin' Rand Paul really would be like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders.
I'd be a grade A dunce to support somebody who doesn't care about my right (as a minority) to vote, my right to clean air/water, or a livable wage.

(4 posts)We'd better ALL round up as many more Democrats as we can, and even offer them rides to the polls, to offset the numbers of people, who don't even understand that they ARE Democrats, who fall for the propaganda and vote AGAINST themselves and their families! . Print up some of the FACTS so they can SEE what's happening, as our democracy is being bought out from under us! It always shocks me how many low income people actually believe they're Teapublicans, and vote FOR the multi-billionaire selfish philosophy! I STILL haven't found ANYBODY who can tell me of ANY legislation the opposition writes and passes, that benefits ANYONE ELSE, besides the super-wealthy people, who make MORE THAN the $250,000 EACH ($500,000 per couple) limits, set BY the Teapublicans, as the dividing line! MOST of the people I know make WAAAAAAY less than that, while still not being thought of, as "poor"!
If we are going to have ANY "balance of power", as intended by our Founding Fathers, we have to get every voting age person out to the polls, so they realize that we definitely CAN still be a government OF, BY, and FOR "the PEOPLE". WE, who don't make that much money every year, ARE the "MAJORITY". No "REAL" Teapublican (the ones with the REAL money) could EVER win ANY political race, IF all voting age people would get to the polls and cast their ballots!

(4 posts)Rand Paul could NEVER run as a Democrat! He is the opposite of "Democrat"! Are you saying that no Democrat , at all, will run for president?? There is ALWAYS a "CHOICE"! Even if ZERO Democrat is on the ballot for some office, it's better to SKIP that vote COMPLETELY, and leave it blank, than to zero out another's Democrat vote, by voting FOR some Teapublican! Or, write in SOME name, so nobody else can fill in the Republican X! I have been using paper ballots the last few elections again, since I found out how easily some computer geek can "jimmy" the voting machines. Also, the machines are only as good as they're programmed. They can be "FIXED" so that the vote goes to the OPPOSITE candidate!
So, until the voting machines get changed, so they are infallible, I won't be trusting them again! Even on the paper ballot, I always take my own ballpoint pen into the booth, so my vote can't be changed. If I leave something blank, I also ink, next to the square, in parentheses, " left blank)", or, "
left blank on purpose)"! Mysterious "HOLES" in ballot bags, as happened in Wisconsin, is a problem I haven't figured out how to remedy, YET! But, be assured, if there is a WAY for crookedness to be easy, there are those few low class CROOKS, who WILL try to cheat!

(17,112 posts)If we're going to deal with hypothetical situations, I suppose we could imagine a Progressive Rand Paul who believes in the same things Bernie Sanders believes. In that case, yes, I would support him. But if he was still a RW Libertarian running as a Democrat, there's no way in hell I'd vote for him. However, I wouldn't vote for Hillary either. If the choice was between those two, I'd look for another candidate.

(2,992 posts)If I were a US citizen, even if it's clear that I don't appreciate Hillary personnaly, the best priority would not be my personal opinion of a candidate, but the sanity and safety and my contry.
