Bernie is in this to WIN. He is not in it to 'drag other candidates to the Left'.
History shows that when we need someone to come along just when it looks like all is lost, currently the fact that Corporate Money is buying our elections, our politicians, writing our laws, running our media, controlling the 'message', destroying the middle class, oppressing minorities, denying the people the right to participate in their democracy, someone comes along just when they are needed.
FDR was one such person.
Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Public School Education, Job Creation, are still among the most popular programs and policies in this country today, across the political divide.
Sen. Bernie Sanders imo, is the right person at the right time to carry on FDR's legacy. And he can and will be the next President of the United States
Job Creation!
Education!
Health Care
Women's Rights
It takes courage to stand up against the Powerful Corporations that control so much and own so much of this country.
I'm just grateful that Bernie Sanders has done so.
Bernie has answered those questions.
He can win this election.
All we have to do is vote for him.
Bernie's in. Are you in for Bernie?

(62,325 posts)He isn't hindered by Corporate Donations so he is free to take stands others have to be careful about. This is Bernie on what 90% of the American want and have a right to. But are being denied because Congress doesn't work for the people apparently, they work for those who fund them, like Monsanto:

(68,918 posts)I often had teachers ask me if my older brother was a really smart kid named "Paul." Ummmm no, that would be Robert (no joke his name WAS that ) because my parents aren't stupid enough to name their kid "Paul Paulsen." I had a teacher argue my own freaking brother's name once ("No, his name was definitely Paul..." "No, it wasn't. I'm his sister and he had you in 10th grade too, you ass..." --okay, I didn't call the teacher an ass, but I wanted to)

(19,544 posts)If he's running for the Democratic ticket, he may well go all the way, but if he's going to split the non-republican votes with a democratic candidate it's a near mathematical certainty that he won't.
Someone would have to explain to me how nearly every democrat, and the vast majority of the middle, would turn out to vote in a three way race for an Independent leftist like Sanders and put him over the top. I wish him the best, but I want to be realistic over optimistic.
Regardless, I hope he doesn't step down from the senate to run. We need him there and can't risk losing him.

Hillary?
Does she want to preserve public education?
Has she ever once suggested taxing capital gains at the same rate as earned income?
Has she ever spoken one fucking word in favor of preserving the USPS?
Has she told us her position on the TPP?
Social Security?
Medicare?
Has she ever once suggested that maybe we could benefit from a nationional single payer health care system?
WTF?
Where are you, Hillary?
Bernie will beat Hillary like a drum.

(3,811 posts)So the progeny of the wealthy would never have to work again? So we could once again create a landed aristocracy in the U.S., like in old Europe? The House GOP just passed a bill to get rid of the inheritance tax. As a US senator Hillary Clinton voted several times in favor of keeping the inheritance tax and keeping the exemption amount at current levels (around $5 million).

(62,325 posts)Different times, I wanted Kucinich but fell for the 'he can't win' routine as we were still in the throes of the Bush Regime. Millions of others did also. Not to mention, he was out of the race before millions of Americans had a chance to vote for him.
We are far more informed now than we were then.
We've learned a lot and now and that old 'he can't win' routine will fall on deaf ears.
Those who didn't want Kucinich and who don't want Bernie will have to come up with more than smears, those kind of tactics will only make people MORE supportive of this candidate.
We saw the smear machine at work with Kucinich. Had it not been for Bush, it wouldn't have worked then either.
It's really pretty simple, Bernie will win if we vote for him.
Btw, any comment on the issues?

(62,325 posts)And it isn't just DU.
And I explained why DUers who really wanted Kucinich, opted out at that time. So while they voted in the poll for Kucinich, DUers fell for the scare tactics, like everyone else.
That won't happen this time.

(27,469 posts)and get to the "real world." I'm becoming far too optimistic about Bernie's chances. Somebody slap me!
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)people, that if the population is informed, he preferred to trust them to do the right thing, than to trust politicians. Something like that.
And that is going to be key to Bernie winning. That he is heard. We know that there are billions of dollars invested in this race that that will be spent to stop anyone other than their chosen candidates, from being heard.
So it's up to the people who do know about him, to let other people know about him.
mountain grammy
(27,469 posts)I like to think most people are good and want to do the right thing, but all around me I see different. I won't give up or give in and I'll promote Bernie all the way.
It comes down to this; if a good candidate can't have a chance of winning without billionaire support, there's just not much left worth fighting for.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)Our country has the least informed citizens in the civilized world because our media isrled by six Corporations.
However, we do have the internet which they hadn't counted on when they took over the media.
And people ARE using it already to get people on board with Bernie.
Reddit is one of the biggest forums on the internet and Bernie is already the most read candidate on that site, plus they are talking about 'helping him to win'.
You are right that if we can't get a good candidate elected anymore, it is definitely a bad state of affairs.
But I think we can. If every Bernie supporter could get even one other person to learn about him and support him, we would have a good chance of winning.
Don't give up, yet!

But more to the immediate reason for supporting Bernie Sanders - I believe in what he has said, is saying and WILL do.
I can't TELL you how long I've been WITHOUT that feeling. Trepidations regarding every single decision I've made, beginning in 1992. Before this time, I was mostly one of the "unaware" persons who could be swayed, and wasn't sure why.
