I don't have any details. His twin sister posted on Facebook this morning that there will be a celebration of his life on Sunday, August 23.
pinto was a staple in the Cooking & Baking and Religion groups. He had served as a long-term moderator on DU2, and on MIRT and as a main forums host on DU3.
His last post was a week ago today in C&B.

4. Not a clue. LOL, my sister stood me up for a lunch date today, so I'm winging it.
She just lost track of time or forgot. Retired after 30+ years of living by an appointment book (hairdresser) so I can't blame her.
I'll post details when I have them.
From pinto's dearest friend, worldfamouslois:
97. DUer pinto has died
Hi everyone-I just finally figured out how to do this-I am a long time friend of his and his family.-If you want to contact me please feel free- I'm am new to this site, not sure how to navigate so I get your messages. Not to mention my grief is over whelming right now and life is a huge fog.
One thing I would like to have passed along is that if any one wants to honor his memory he would love it if you made a donation to SLO Bangers Syringe Exchange-He was instrumental in helping us stay funded to stay open from day one as our grant writer. He made sure we could provide access to free syringes, free HIV/HEPC testing and to provide naloxone to save lives. If you so feel inclined to do so you can contact me and I will give you info on how to do so.
thank you all !
And the donation link, thanks to MADem. Please specify that the donation is for the needle exchange. It meant a lot to pinto.

(18,101 posts)He was at DU when I joined. It's kinda weird that he has over 100,000 posts and many didn't know him (their loss). I guess he posted in groups and non-flaming threads. I post on DI, had the duck (woodpecker).

(38,237 posts)I'm sick at hearing this news. Pinto was a regular poster on our "What's for Dinner" thread. I just can't believe it.
It's so hard to think that there won't be any more Pinto posts on our nightly thread. No more hearing about his herb garden, and his railroad-style house. I always liked to read his posts; he was creative in his approach to cooking. One sometimes gets a sense of a person, and with Pinto I sensed a gentle, inquisitive soul with a wonderful sense of humor.
I don't read the Religion forum, so I have no sense of what his beliefs were. I wish I knew, especially at a time like this.
I am immeasurably sad, and I, too, am crying.

Pinto once told me that it was NF that gave him his screen name. One of clues a person might have NF is the amount (6 or more) of cafe-au-lait spots a person has on their body. I am guess he had several that were east to see.

(62,507 posts)An extraordinary man who led an extraordinary life. There have been some really sad losses for DU this year. But this hits home the most. Never ever once had a disagreement with pinto, a kind, gentle, wonderful person.
I was a fan. Would always read his posts and never once disagreed. No spats. A nickname I always recognized here on DU. An "old timer" a "founder" someone whose opinion I regarded. So few of those posters are left I feel.
RIP pinto. Long live his memory.
