(93,210 posts)You just have to explain how it's done so everyone can do it.
We want fair and equal voter fraud.

(29,054 posts)That's a photo I've always tried to take (in other forests) and have never been able to pull off with any degree of success. I can feel the moisture in the air. I can smell the leaves turning to dirt. It's a visceral photo for me. I tip my hat to whoever took that shot.

Well, unless there's a tie. In the event of a tie I'm going to run away.
Easier than voting for such great entries.

(11,833 posts)Where was it shot?
How did you obtain the wonderful composition?
What camera did you use?
Did you take a lot of other shots in order to get this one perfect photo?

(7,371 posts)It was taken in Huntington Beach, CA, about three days after a big storm this past winter. There was good wave action that day, but not many surfers.
I originally shot it in a 16: 9 ratio (I like this ratio because the pictures fill up my computer screen without black bands on the sides). I then cropped it to a 3:1 ratio to make it more panoramic. I cropped off the bottom, it was just more sand. Photography is a hobby for me but I've been an artist all my life...I like to think composition is one of my stronger skills!
I used a Nikon D300, in fact this was the first time I used it!
I took about 40 pictures at this spot, you can see the pier, Catalina Island, and the city of Long Beach from here. But I only took 5 of the surfers and the dog. I named the photo "Moondoggie" because of her and the added surfing connection (Moondoggie was Gidget's surfer boyfriend). I found out Gidget and Moondoggie were real people, and both are still around!

It's a gorgeous shot. I hope you can get it into a show.

(19,229 posts)Then I used a filter to artsy it up a bit. It did turn out very nice, thank you!
Nikon D800, 28-300 zoom lens. I think I was using "P" (automatic) setting.
lovemydog
(11,833 posts)Not sure if that was the effect you were going for, but I do mean that in a very complimentary way. Thanks for sharing your technique.
CurtEastPoint
(19,229 posts)and I believe the one I used for this was Impression. They make a whole suite and they're kinda $$ IMHO so I'm doing a trial and will purchase maybe just this one plugin. I already also have Simplify. Check out their site: https://www.topazlabs.com/store

(7,371 posts)You've done such a great job moderating this contest and nobody seems to notice! Let me just say GREAT JOB and you weren't even obligated to do it!
In appreciation...I know you like birds...here's a couple of pictures I took of an acorn woodpecker, in Modjeska Canyon (using my old blurry camera)...we had a woodpecker discussion in the past, and I thought of you when I took these!
BTW, I scored 100% too! Supertramp was the toughest (who remembers what those guys looked like, anyways!)

(93,210 posts)Thanks!
I had forgotten how beautiful the members of Pink Floyd were. Well, some of them.
The quiz made me feel downright old(er).
