Fla. limits on voter registration drives blocked
The Associated Press
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- A federal judge says some of Florida's new limits on voter registration drives are likely unconstitutional.
U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle on Thursday temporarily blocked implementation until a trial can be held.
One provision requires groups or individuals signing up voters to submit their registration forms to election officials within 48 hours of collecting them.
Others impose what the judge called "burdensome record-keeping and reporting requirements that serve little if any purpose."

(16,645 posts)I heard an interview on NPR saying that laws like the ones passed cannot be enforced with a primary or a general election being held within 90 days of passage and the August primary causes them to fall into that time frame.
I am truly surprised. Having lived in Florid-DUH for 36 years and witnessed the incredibly corrupt and provincial government ensconced in Tallahassee, this news item comes as an extraordinarily pleasant shock. However, I must temper my optimism with a caveat; this is only a stay of execution, so-to-speak. It would not surprise me if Bob Hinkle reverses himself and lifts the block after waking up some morning to find his favorite horse's head on his pillow.
This is not hyperbole. That really is the way things are done in the dysfunctional fiefdom of Tallahassee (currently a wholly owned subsidiary of Koch Bros, Inc.)
