(27,315 posts)After all, not only he has been married 3 times, like Trump, but, to the best of my knowledge, as bad as the divorce between Ivana Trump and him was, it was soft compared to the slimeness of Newt bringing divorce papers to his wife in the hospital.
Anyway, Rubio wont be at the convention, neither will Kasich (Republican governor of the state where the Convention will be).
Huntsman is too obscure to be VP, and Joni Ernst as already said she was not vetted.
But who knows, it could be Scott Brown. After all, he is as crazy as Trump.

(29,548 posts)Joni Ernst met with Trump over the July 4 weekend, and the New York Times reported "she is in the process of vetting as a running mate."

I honestly have no idea who he'll pick, maybe one of the Inner Circle of his understaffed "campaign" team. While the party will try to persuade him to pick a grownup as a running mate, Trump has never given any indication of respecting the party's kingmakers, not to mention the electorate, the media or the country, and will pick some lunatic of his own choosing.

(29,548 posts)(From the OP)
"..After Martinez skipped a Trump rally in New Mexico on May 24, the two appear to be beefing."
That's too bad for Trump, since Martinez is a western governor, a woman, and a Hispanic.

(51,606 posts)She's also a New York resident. This means Trump would have to forfeit those big 29 electoral votes from the State of New York, but that's okay: considering the love New Yorkers have for Donald Trump, Hillary could sprout horns and a tail and name Chainsaw Al Dunlap her running mate, and still take New York.
Come to think of it, Chainsaw Al might be a good running mate for Trump...he's perhaps the only person in America who sucks worse than Trump does.

(2,707 posts)Christie's job approvals are too low for that. Pence is much younger than Newt and Newt is older than Hillary, Trump, or any of Hillary's VP potentials, Pence hasn't been embroiled in a fight with Trump like Martinez, and unlike Carson, knows about governing.

(29,548 posts)He is a strong social conservative, and he's also close to the Koch brothers, which might be an important factor for Trump to consider.

(51,606 posts)I think if I were Trump I would put a food taster and car starter on my Cabinet - especially if I chose Newt Gingrich as my running mate. Gingrinch would give his eye teeth to be president but can't get elected for little inconsequential reasons like that no one can fucking stand him. But if Trump named him VP then Trump were suddenly incapable of being president (because his vice president put a bomb under his chair, say) Gingrich would automatically become president.

(58,785 posts)little to lose, or a risk-taker who is willing to put it on the line for the hope of inner-circle power. I suspect most of those above would not throw away what they have.
Just guessing of course: Christie probably makes both lists. Cruz probably no for the first reason, but possibly as a supra-ambitious risk-taker; he might also count on God to remove barriers to power; bad, bad fit with Trump. Gingrich no, a sociopath who could act sucky for a while if it suited his purposes, but he's an insane choice that I'd assume Trump's advisers would be dead set against.
Guessing, Kasich might just be the ultrawealthy funders' first choice for their man inside even though he refused the idea, and might make a good sucker-upper, very religious, conceivably willing to try for a chance at inside power and influence on SCOTUS appointments, unlikely to be put off by the campaign's appeal to bigotry, but, unlikely or no, he may be the most likely draft candidate.
My money's on some dead-career person I don't know anything about. Like a "general." Reportedly, Trump thinks "generals" are cool.

(7,160 posts)He isn't even going to be there.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)Not surprising if he likes his chances in another 4 years better. He's only 64. He has a long history with the Kochs and their crowd, though, and it was that which started me musing. Where their interests are involved it's the sane people who suspect conspiracies.

(58,785 posts)and who trusts what he says anyway? Remember his deal with Cruz? Lasted, what 10 minutes max?
I am looking forward to the convention, though. My guess at least part of the time viewership will set records that won't be beat for a very long time.

The NY Daily News headline was:

(8,784 posts)topic for several days. Let's assume--God forbid--that Trump is elected. Let's further assume that, if he is elected, he will either refuse to serve or will resign at some point. Can you imagine the fun and frivolity that would ensue if he chose Palin as his Veep?
red dog 1
(29,548 posts)but, IMO, (God forbid he IS elected), he will NEVER resign..his ego is too big for that.
As for Palin, (From The Atlantic article)
"Trump is weak with women and still stands to convince very conservative voters that he is a true conservative...Palin might help him on both counts."
I think he might choose a woman, but not Palin.
IMO, he's more likely to go with a woman who is in office now, such as Joni Ernst.
Different Drummer
(8,784 posts)Perhaps Susana Martinez or Nikki Haley.
red dog 1
(29,548 posts)As for Nikki Haley, Trump himself has said:
"No, not Nikki Haley, no, Nikki Haley, no, she wasn't under consideration."
My guess is that if he does pick a woman, it'll likely be someone like Joni Ernst, Mary Fallin, or Jan Brewer.

(45,592 posts)IMHO there is no way that the Koch Bros would have allowed her to destroy her career by becoming Trumps vp candidate.

I'm not surprised that Gingrich is way ahead in this poll; and it's quite likely that Trump will choose him.

(29,548 posts)I think the original video was from a photo Op that showed Trump sitting at his desk with a live bald eagle.
The bird bit him when he tried to pick up a French fry that was on the plate in front of the eagle.
I think OJ Simpson would make a good choice. The ratings would be through the roof.

(41,307 posts)Or I can suggest a semi-fascist leader who might be looking for a job. His name is Nigel Farage, and he just resigned (again!) as leader of UKIP, after helping to fuck up our country quite royally. He did say that Trump was too extreme, but hey, tickets are supposed to be balanced.
