Going through airport security in a major American airport. Houston, Atlanta, Chicago, etc. I know laws vary by state but TSA is federal.

(36,392 posts)...who handles it from there. I don't know whether this is true or not because I make damn sure my bag is clean before I go to an airport, but it makes some sense. The TSA isn't really tasked with small time cannabis interdiction and in California possession of small amounts is not generally a big deal, especially if one has a 215 card (for medical cannabis).

(12,482 posts)I had a j in my wallet. It went right through the x ray machine and nobody saw it. I just wonder what would have happened. Probably called Houston PD. They give tickets for misd. posession

(12,482 posts)I used to. Used my shoes until the shoe bomber. Then I switched to my underwear. Then after the underwear bomber these terrorists were pretty much on my shit list.

(45,319 posts)they are so inclined, in Oregon that would require them to call the FBI because that joint is legal in Oregon. The FBI does not want to hear about your joint. They just don't.
However, some States are draconian:
Thirteen Years for Two Joints
"One of those citizens is Bernard Noble, a father and aspiring restaurateur from New Orleans who was stopped by police and nabbed for possession of two joints in 2010. In keeping with Louisiana's habitual offenders law, Noble, who had two prior cocaine possession charges and a prior marijuana possession charge (he admits that he was a coke addict in the 90s), was sentenced to a staggering 13 and 1/3 years in prison for simple marijuana possession, a nonviolent offense."

I'm told that the Southern States are super groovy but to me these wildly racist pot laws are a rather major issue.

(28,795 posts)don't know the up to date status, but I know Florida came close to passing a medical marijuana referendum recently.

Seriously, though: TSA isn't looking for it. They're looking for bombs and knives and stuff, and weed ( and other organic materials) barely even appears on their x-rays. Dogs inside airports are trained to sniff bombs, not drugs, which is another reason to never, ever put your pot in checked luggage.
