What do you think would happen to someone caught with a joint

4. I've been told that in California the TSA calls the local police dept...

...who handles it from there. I don't know whether this is true or not because I make damn sure my bag is clean before I go to an airport, but it makes some sense. The TSA isn't really tasked with small time cannabis interdiction and in California possession of small amounts is not generally a big deal, especially if one has a 215 card (for medical cannabis).

10. TSA has zero authority in regard to cannabis, they can refer to local law enforcement if

they are so inclined, in Oregon that would require them to call the FBI because that joint is legal in Oregon. The FBI does not want to hear about your joint. They just don't.

However, some States are draconian:

Seriously, though: TSA isn't looking for it. They're looking for bombs and knives and stuff, and weed ( and other organic materials) barely even appears on their x-rays. Dogs inside airports are trained to sniff bombs, not drugs, which is another reason to never, ever put your pot in checked luggage.
