And his supporters agree with him.
Humans are creatures that are capable of rationalizing their beliefs and actions but we are not rational beings.
I'm not condoning Trump or his supporters but am pointing out that people of average intelligence or higher are quite capable of filling their head with utter bullshit that supports their world view and believing, without question, every smelly ounce of it.

(29,263 posts)On the greater majority of things, he knows full well he is just making shit up, it's just that as a dictatorial-style CEO, he is totally unaccustomed to being called on it.
He knows when he is lying, he's just surrounded himself with brown-nosing suck-ups for so long, he comes totally UNHINGED when he is challenged, rebuffed, corrected or told NO.
He KNOWS he is in way over his head. He KNOWS he isn't smart enough for this job. He KNOWS more people hate him than like him.
That is why he is devolving right in front of us.

(36,417 posts)The presser today shows how powerful he knows he is
He didn't even TRY to talk to most of us - just his base
Until the politicians, press and people hold him accountable he'll just get better and better at it

(29,263 posts)Today's presser represents the complete failure of the moderating influences he has to thank for getting him this far.
I think Priebus is greatly weakened and Kellyanne Conway is slated for removal, and this spectacle today is the result of that.
Make no mistake, this press conference was the worst career decision since Baghdad Bob rolled on out to the airport.

Where's those tax returns?

(63,221 posts)Lying has been working for him for so long that he uses it as a defensive tactic. He doesn't believe that crap anymore than we do, but it's almost like he can go into a trance and convince himself of it when it works for him. He has no conscience and no morals. That is why he can do it so easily. He knows he's full of shit, but it's just another useful tactic in his bag of tricks.

We see the same syndrome here in AZ with our state legislators and officials who also get their "facts" by this means. Of course, Faux News watchers exhibit this syndrome also.
It's an environmental disease, caused by living in a right-wing environment.

Stores can't keep Trump wine on the shelves because it sells out so quickly.
55% of likely voters approve of President Trumps job performance.
and so on and so on and so on.
