Not a great pic of me, but I'm with a great group
I'm at far right with a group of high school students who have raised more than $160,000 (so far) to build a new home for a local wounded warrior. This pic was taken at the property, in front of the existing house that will be remodeled as a caregivers' home. Groundbreaking for the new home for the wounded warrior will be held soon. I'm proud to know this great bunch of young people!
Bravo Pinboy.

(8,554 posts)I cannot even watch this now due to the tunes, but here's something pinboy shared with me a while back about what he had worked on...
Seems appropriate for this awful news day
(on edit)
I found the thread where he talks about the Operation All the Way Home with another pic:

(93,779 posts)sharing this picture... it shows his true spirit. I always wonder what fellow DUers look like, though it's none of my business. He looks much like I imagined him to look.

(507 posts)feel cheated that I did not get to know him. What a truly remarkable human being he must have been to leave so many sad, but grateful people to have known him. There is a couple verses from an old Norse book relating to Odin that struck me as I read all your tributes to him. I wanted to share it here to let you know that even though I did not get to know Pinboy personally, his goodness is reflected in all of you who called him friend....
Cattle die, kindred die,
Every man is mortal:
But the good name never dies
Of one who has done well
Cattle die, kindred die,
Every man is mortal:
But I know one thing that never dies,
The glory of the great dead

I often think of this poem when "talking" online to people. This time we do have a face. Does anybody know why he picked the name "Pinboy"?
Friends Without Faces
by Thomas Teague
We sit and we type,
and we stare at our screens,
We all have to wonder,
what this possibly means.
With our mouse we roam,
through the rooms in a maze,
Looking for something or someone,
as we sit in a daze.
We chat with each other,
we type all our woes,
Small groups we do form,
and gang up on our foes.
We wait for somebody,
to type out our name,
We want recognition,
but it is always the same.
We give kisses and hugs,
and sometimes flirt,
In IMs we chat deeply,
and reveal why we hurt.
We do form friendships
- but - why we don't know,
But some of these friendships,
will flourish and grow.
Why is it on screen,
we can be so bold,
Telling our secrets,
that have never been told.
Why is it we share,
the thoughts in our mind,
With those we can't see,
as though we were blind.
The answer is simple,
it is as clear as a bell.
We all have our problems,
and need someone to tell.
We can't tell "real" people,
but tell someone we must,
So we turn to the 'puter,
and to those we can trust.
Even though it is crazy,
the truth still remains,
They are Friends Without Faces,
and odd little names.

As for the name, I just assumed it was his call sign in Nam. A Vet could tell you more than I.
Thanks.

(10,941 posts)I thought maybe the name had to do with pin boys in the old bowling alleys. My parents used to own a bowling alley in the early 50s before setting the bowling pins was fully automated. They employed teenage boys to set the pins.
Pinsetter - Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinsetter
In bowling, a pinsetter, or pinspotter, was originally a person who manually reset bowling pins ... labor that most frequently took place evenings), many pinsetters were teenage boys, and thus pinboy is another name used to describe the job.
