(4,451 posts)One good thing is he would likely pay for his campaign with no donors.
Tom Rinaldo
(23,022 posts)Self funding? That was Trump's line. I would rather find leaders who count on the support of millions of small donors in order to be politically viable.
And I'm not voting in his poll. I am very open to developing new leaders. However fabulous wealth will never vault anyone to the top of my list. I find the entire concept of Democrats giving credence to the possible candidacy of a man whose views we barely know because he did so well in business to be depressing.
Jake Stern

Now where have I seen that before?

Has Bernie said he was running again? I sure have not heard that but I sure hear a lot about people saying they will not vote for him here. Perhaps there is a reason to post these ideas?
Me.

choie
(4,915 posts)so much that you'd prefer to vote for somebody whose positions you know nothing about? I swear the anti-Bernie crap on this site has become absolutely ludicrous. and people talk about Clinton derangement syndrome?
NunnesBuznat
(47 posts)Some people see Bernie as a cantankerous old social-war profiteer riding on the back of republican talking points. Your post raises a fair point, but you lose much credibility by mentioning HRC, thus appearing as someone that still has a chip on their shoulders about the primaries. Bernie is a political figure right now, Hillary is not.
Personally I would vote for him over a douchebag that created digital crystal meth and paved the way for a dystopian age of interpersonal relationships like Zuckerberg. Also he, like the owner of Twitter, does not seem to understand or care that their platforms are destabilizing the world and literally getting people killed (albeit indirectly). Without Twitter Trump wouldn't even be a thing.
choie
(4,915 posts)about my credibility - that chip on the shoulders rests squarely with Clinton supporters - Clinton derangement syndrome is real, as is, apparently, Bernie derangement syndrome. Perhaps you don't understand the syndromes...if not, do some homework..
NunnesBuznat
(47 posts)and noun+derangement would imply that supporting that politician is part of a natural order. So perhaps I don't understand?
choie
(4,915 posts)Clinton Derangement syndrome is the name of a malady suffered my numerous Republicans (and probably some Democrats) who see the Clintons as the symbol for all that is corrupt and evil in politics. Consequently, Bernie Derangement syndrome is the name of a malady suffered by numerous Democrats (especially on this board) who see Sanders as the anti-Christ...Same malady, different target.
Docreed2003
(18,003 posts)I'd rather have neither. I was a HUGE Bernie supporter in the primaries but I don't think I could bring the same level of support in 2020...first, I realize Bernie will always be Bernie but I can't stand his constant criticism of Democrats while holding a position within the DNC as an Independent, it's become tiresome. Not to mention the fact that in 2020, I would have serious reservations about nominating him due to health issues...I'm not being an ass here, just look at how much the Presidency aged President Obama!
As for Zuckerberg, I think there are some big positives, but, frankly, I don't know enough about his positions to put a full throated support behind him. I'm wary of supporting a businessman who has zero experience.

(4,451 posts)I think he would be similar to Emmanuel Macron. I like Macron and if there was no other choice I would vote for MZ.

(16,794 posts)I suspect he is in-between, and too much of an opportunist to have the kind of character and compassion that I want to see in senior politicians.

(25,816 posts)Bernie will be too old and too many Dems dislike him.
Zuckerberg is just too rich to have the right perspective.
Bernie is going to have too high of a negative factor (ironically the same as Hillary), and Zuckerberg is two faced and untrustable - the same issue I have with Facebook which fails to follow up on their corporate responsibility.

(18,003 posts)We just don't know...we have no idea what MZ thinks about any of the pertinent issues, other than some public statements that tend to lean left. Personally, I'm not enthused about supporting a businessman with no political experience...I mean, it worked out so well this past fall, right?
NurseJackie
(42,862 posts)... a bit of a mixed bag, right?
I've seen videos of him speaking, and he appears to be very eloquent and able to express himself without resorting to aggressive gestures and tones... that's also something about him that would appeal to me very much. Zuckerberg has a calm demeanor and he seems to be very respectful of others. In my opinion, that would be an important quality for Zuckerberg (or any candidate) to have when dealing with leaders and diplomats from other nations.
Docreed2003
(18,003 posts)As for sanders, see my post upthread. For MZ, I agree with what you said, but I'd like to hear more substance to his political beliefs. I don't think he's like Trump, what I worry about is a businessman with no idea about how to run government and no clue how to staff the executive branch, as taught to us by Trump!!

(2,996 posts)Stealing ideas from people and then giving them a large payout. Not exactly what we need in terms of presidential material. Can we STOP relying on the uber rich to govern us? That would be a good step towards getting out of our current mess.
What the hell has Zuckerberg even done to benefit society? Create facebook which costs us billions of man-hours in lost productivity?

I would never vote for someone who didn't have a track record of public service. No more 'business' people. Nope, no thanks.
PS: fuck Facebook. 4 years free of it and doing just fine. Fuck them. They are a data mining company, don't kid yourself. Plus, studies show people are happier when they don't go on Facebook.

(3,146 posts)Two reasons:
1. I find myself agreeing more than disagreeing with Bernie plus he has actual experience in government and has proven he can run a successful campaign for office.
2. Zuckerberg's douchey older brother vibe is a real turn off. That counts for me. He reminds me of my real life brother to whom I haven't spoken in over 5 years. Would toss you aside in a heartbeat, doesn't seem to have left the frat behind and simply can't resist the temptation to rub his success in your face.

(3,022 posts)Mark Zuckerberg is a political dilitant who got really lucky with a money tree. Senator Sanders is too old, he had his shot it didn't work out he still can do great things in the Senate. We need young people it seems like the Democratic leadership are all eligible for the senior discount. I know that's ageist, I am 60 and it seems like our leaders are all older than me.

(255 posts)I would have suspected pitting a narcissistic billionaire who was one of the prime purveyors of fake news in the last election, in other words, a Trump clone, against Senator Sanders was little more than a heavy handed attempt to "expose" those members whose hate for Sanders exceeds their love for Democratic principles. I would also have suspected it would never have worked. Sadly I was wrong on both counts.
What is happening to us?

We do not want celebrities, CEOs, or billionaires even thinking about running for POTUS.
We need to stop them and shut them down by any means necessary before this becomes a trend in our elected offices.

Spare us the "wisdom" of Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Richard Branson. I have seen nothing to indicate that Zuckerberg has a remotely progressive bone in his body so I find it truly startling that he has any traction at all on DU.
The only thing he has shown any clear talent for is making money for himself.
