First Alabama counties offer COVID vaccine to anyone over 75

By Dennis Pillion | dpillion@al.com

At least two Alabama counties are now offering COVID-19 vaccines to anyone over the age of 75.

Health officials in Calhoun County announced Tuesday that anyone over 75 could receive the vaccine, creating long lines at the Anniston City Meeting Center, reports the Anniston Star. The vaccine will be offered there to anyone over 75 Wednesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Etowah County went a step further, also opening its latest vaccine clinic to anyone in Phase 1b of Alabama’s Vaccine Allocation Plan, which includes people over 75, plus essential workers such as teachers, first responders such as fire fighters and law enforcement, who were not included in 1a, and people living in congregate settings such as prisons, homeless shelters or group homes.
