A Lauderdale County man currently faces more than 1,000 charges related to possession and production of obscene matter, and likely will face further counts in days to come, according to authorities.
Jimmy Davis Shook, 68, of Waterloo, is being held in the Lauderdale County Jail on $400,000 bond.
Lauderdale County Director of Investigations James Distefano said Shook was originally arrested on Tuesday at his home.
Investigators, acting on a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, went to the home and found Shook with a laptop actively displaying images of child pornography.
He was arrested on five counts of possessing obscene matter containing visual depiction of persons under 17 years of age, and released on $75,000 bond.
Distefano said investigators then combed through several storage devices found during a search and found enough to charge Shook with 505 counts of possession, and 500 counts of production.
The production counts deal with downloading or transmitting images from one device to another. Investigators have not uncovered any evidence that Shook was creating images, Distefano said.
