Greetings,
I just signed the following petition addressed to: Democratic National Convention Committee.
----------------
Move the national convention OUT of North Carolina
On May 8th, the people of North Carolina voted in support of Amendment One, a constitutional amendment that discriminates against LGBT people, couples & their families. In protest, the Democratic National Convention Committee should MOVE its convention to a state that upholds values of equality & liberty, and which treats ALL citizens equally.

(120,472 posts)only 34.33% of the registered electorate voted; 61.05%, of those actually voting in the primary, voted for Amendment One; and 20.98% = 61.05% of 34.33%
Put another way, 79% of registered NC voters (4 992 807 of them) did not vote for Amendment One -- and in fact 66% of registered NC voters (4 132 685 of them) did not vote at all
Here's how the counties, containing major urban areas, voted:
Mecklenberg (pop Charlotte 731K) 628,677 registered voters, 28% turnout
80816 for, 95615 against
Wake (pop Raleigh 404K, pop Cary 135K) 612,919 registered voters, 40% turnout
105900 for, 139020 against
Guilford (pop Greensboro 270K, pop High Point 104K) 338,263 registered voters, 35% turnout
58520 for, 58448 against
Forsyth (pop Winston-Salem 230K) 233,744 registered voters, 34% turnout
41772 for, 37650 against
Durham (pop Durham 228K) 192,270 registered voters, 39% turnout
22359 for, against 51591
Cumberland (pop Fayetteville 201K) 199,272 registered voters, 25% turnout
34398 for, 15071 against
New Hanover (pop Wilmington 106K) 150,254 registered voters, 29% turnout
21940 for, 21611 against
Pitt (pop Greenville pop 85K) 106,894 registered voters, 29% turnout
18748 for, 11717 against
Buncombe (pop Asheville 83K) 179,516 registered voters, 39% turnout
33702 for, 35768 against
There's a reason the Republicans put this on the primary ballot: they expected the turnout this May to be skewed in favor of older voters and more Republican voters, compared to the turnout in November
