Lights for Liberty July 12 around the country

https://www.lightsforliberty.org

We are a coalition of people, many of whom are mothers, dedicated to human rights, and the fundamental principle behind democracy that all human beings have a right to life, liberty and dignity.

We are partnering with international, national, regional and local communities and organizations who believe that these fundamental rights are not negotiable and are willing to protect them.

On Friday July 12th, 2019, Lights for Liberty: A Vigil to End Human Concentration Camps, will bring thousands of people to locations worldwide as well as to concentration camps across country, into the streets and into their own front yards, to protest the inhumane conditions faced by migrants.

Local events:

Looks like hundreds throughout the country.

CREATE A LOCAL EVENT

1. LOCATION- Pick a site for your vigil. A detention center if possible, local government office, faith center, or park. A map of detention centers can be found here:

www.freedomforimmigrants.org/detention-statistics

If you expect turn out to be large, contact your local permitting office. You may also choose to just light a candle at 9 P.M. in front of your home, in which case skip to Step 4.

2. REGISTER- Create a Facebook event page. Please name your event “Lights for Liberty: City, State”. This will help people find your local event. Then, submit your local event through the form below.

3. OUTREACH- Contact local organizations and invite them to be involved as sponsors who will share your event and mobilize their members to attend.

If you’re having speakers prior to 9 P.M., ask migrant-centric organizations if they have anyone who would like to speak. You can also invite local politicians to speak. Template letters are available under Downloads.

4. JULY 12-

Share your action via Facebook live @Lights4Liberty, Twitter @lights4liberty, Instagram lights4liberty. We are using #lights4liberty #dontlookaway #endusconcentrationcamps.

At 9pm, please hold a candle and share a moment of silence. Together we will light up the world (and social media) to demand an end to human detention camps.

Details of exact vigil locations will continue to be announced in the coming days.
We welcome all individuals and organizations who support an end to human detention camps to participate in a main or local event.
