https://www.axios.com/2022/05/26/march-for-our-lives-texas-shootingMarch for Our Lives, the student-led gun control advocacy group, is planning nationwide protests in the wake of the Uvalde, Texas, school shooting, according to its website.
Driving the news: The protests will take place some four years after the shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, during which a gunman killed 17 people. That shooting led to the group's founding and preceded the organization holding one of the largest demonstrations in U.S. history.

(52,241 posts)I have kept my anti-gun signs and my pro-choice signs over the years knowing that I will have to use them again in the not so distant future. I am sick of calling the same damn GQP senators ending up in tears after each call. It takes its toll on me emotionally but it also makes me angry which gives me the energy to continue.

(24,374 posts)so it doesn't take such a toll on you. Easier said than done, I know. Try to keep the upper hand. If they are condescending, tell them to knick off the condescension and stop being a child killer. Try to get under their skin instead of letting them get under yours.
You are doing good work. Keep it up.

(52,241 posts)the staffer on the phone takes my call more seriously for some reason.
I also tell them I was a teacher and they aren't as nasty when they hear that.

(19,312 posts)I signed up and donated already. I've made my flight arrangements and Hotel reservations.
At my age this may be the last march I ever attend, but my voice will be heard on this issue.
I've had it. Those could have been my grandchildren who were murdered, and I can't stop thinking about that.
The gun-humpers can kiss my rosy, red ass. Get in my way, please get in my way.

(19,312 posts)My daughter and I are going together. She's having a tough time with this too. My son-in-law was gracious enough to stay home with the kids while we go make our displeasure with the status quo known. I'm happy to spend this time with her, but I wish it was for a different reason.
