interesting that i did alabama and while everyone agrees the south is satans bordello most everyone had nothing but good things to say about alabama
the heart of dixie mind you
i am opening the door so we can all equally slam each states head in ot

4. I've never been to Alaska but would love to visit, maybe a cruise.

What I've learned about Alaska is pretty much just what's been written about it since Palin became McCain's running mate. I had no real reason to pay attention to what was going on up there before, it just seemed so far away and separate from the lower 48.

The photographs I've seen are spectacular.

And I admire the Alaskans' strength of conviction. A pic of some people braving unbelievable (to me) temps to stand with Occupy comes to mind.

You can actually walk to Russia any time in the winter and the people that live on thsoe two islands are all inter-related..

I've been there twice. Very beautiful huge state unlike no other in the country. Everyone should visit.

9. I was there this past summer with my Mom & kid Sis!

We had a true, once in a lifetime, bucket list style vacation. NatGeo/Linblad on a little boat on the South East waterways, watching whales bubble feed and kayaking around and visiting the most beautiful places on earth

THEN

Up to Denali for a week climbing and taking tundra naps and gorging ourselves on blueberries and watching caribou & bears..

I have never been anywhere so beautiful

(And I'm only missing a couple of states on my visit list)

I love Alaska. Sara Palin doesn't deserve Alaska.

11. I lived there for 10 years in my late 20s

this was the late 80s early 90s. I had to make friends with the winter, since it comes on strong starting in October and ends in May. I made sure to have an exercise program going in the dark months--that was my Sun --and really got into snowmobiling, X-country skiing and downhill, hiking and fishing and camping. I had the best times of my life up there and hiked some really tall mountains.
There is a core group of people who stay and end up being residents, while many other people come and go since they can't take the dark and cold. People help each other out up there, if you run off the road (and this is a part of life!) the next car will likely come to help dig you out or get help. Moose are everywhere, they are huge animals, I always said 'like a cow on stilts' LOL.
Yea there is a lot of drinking up there, but I had a blast. Actually it was living up there that made me realize I was a liberal since I made friends with a former Democratic state representative--Alaska will always live in my heart.
