Get a "403 Forbidden" message? Please post details here!

This discussion thread was locked by Elad (a host of the Announcements group).

Over the past few months, we've made some improvements to the site's configuration that have had the unfortunate side effect of causing some people to get a "403 Forbidden" message from time to time.

To help me fix this, if you experience one, please post in this thread with the following information:

1) As close to the exact time (Eastern) that it happened to you (down to the minute, if possible).
2) What you were attempting to do when it happened (submit a post, clicked on "Greatest Threads," etc).

To be clear, without an exact time it will be very difficult for me to trace, so please don't try and remember the 403 that happened to you yesterday, or whenever, and guestimate the time. But if it happens again, note the time, and then post here.

2. Last night I had a persistent one that survived all kinds of reboots

Definitely was going at 11:48-11:58 pm but it started before that for me in the middle of attempting to post, and continued beyond that (though I fell asleep eventually).

Before that it popped up throughout the day intermittently. This was constant though.

Edit: I checked down detector (no joy—they don’t know the site) and DU on twitter (also nothing there so figured it was me).

What I get is just a blank page with the link address in the tab space. I usually open things in a new tab but lately it can take up to six tries to get the actual selected page to load. Happens often but normally after I've been on the site for a spell.

23. I've received it a number of times (15-20) over the weekend. Every time was when I was submitting...

....a post. These were almost always in "General Discussion".

The curious thing is that even though I received that error message, the post was accepted when I looked at my posts in another browser window.

I'm using Chrome with Windows 10. I'll log the date/time from now on.

2:35 p.m. EST. I took the time directly off my iPhone immediately as soon as the 403 message appeared. And it happened when I clicked on:

“Supreme Court Seems Skeptical of Trump’s Census Plan.”

I have never had this 403 message occur until the past few days, and it seems to be happening about once every 6-9 times that I click on a thread to read it.

40. It happened to me about an hour ago, around 1:00 CST.

Sorry, I don't remember the exact time. When I open my browser on this Fire tablet, a short list of icons for my favorite sites pops up. I pressed the DU icon and got the 403 message. I came back about 20 minutes later and it worked fine. I open and close DU all day, going back and forth from other sites and tasks, and this was the first time in years that I've had any trouble going to DU.

43. You should have a custom 403 error message that includes a form for people to fill in...

... the form could be pre-populated with the last page visited and the date and time. The user could simply add a comment or two, click "submit" and voila!

Note: I have looked at many, many DU threads today with no issues arising at all. So, I was a bit surprised to get the “403 Forbidden” message a moment ago.

I just posted about getting a 403 Forbidden message on my iPhone at 4:00 while clicking on a thread to read " Stella won't allow her human to take leaves. "

So, I switched to my tablet to try the same thread and I had no problem watching Stella the dog.

However, when I clicked the back-arrow to attempt to get back to the DU list of threads (like I do all the time when I am reading lots of DU threads), I got a blank page with a " 500 Internal Error Message" at 4:09 p.m. EST.

First time I have ever seen that particular message!

UPDATE: As I attempted to post this very message, I got a "500 Internal Error Message" again. This was at 4:17 p.m. EST. I hit the tab at the top of the page and I then had a box pop up asking if I wanted to "Cancel" or to "Continue." I hit "Continue" and this page appeared which allows me to edit this post in order to give more details in case any of this may be relevant.

Noe of this may be helpful....but I include it just in case.

I was attempting to use the "share" feature in Chrome to send my daughter a link in Messenger to a post I thought she would enjoy.

This had been happening consistently for a couple of weeks prior to that. Only Messenger was affected, and DU was the only source I had a problem with. (I could share any other source to Messenger, and I could share Du links to Gmail, etc.)

That is the last timestamp I could find. At that time, I started just copying the URLs and sending those. I would check now and then, hoping it would go away. It persisted up until around Thanksgiving. It has not happened since.
