We are now accepting new volunteers to serve on the MIR Team from July - October 2014

Volunteers who wish to help keep DU running smoothly should consider joining the Malicious Intruder Removal Team (MIR Team). The role of MIR Team members is simple: they are empowered to revoke the posting privileges of people who show up at DU with the intent to disrupt.
Members of the MIR Team are provided with tools to delete spam posted by people who have had their posting privileges revoked, but they are NOT responsible for removing community standards violations, locking threads, or dealing with violations of DU's Terms of Service wherever they may occur.
If you are a DU member with at least six months of membership, at least 1,000 posts, and proof of identity (ie. you are a Star member) then you can apply to be a member of the MIR Team. (Please note that if your Transparency page is displayed, you are disqualified from serving on the MIR Team.)
How do I apply?
Simple: just post in this thread to let us know that you'd like to give it a try, and you could be selected by the Admins. There is no application form to fill out, and no confidentiality agreement to sign. MIR Team members do not have access to any privileged information about other DU members.
We plan to introduce the new MIR Team on Monday July 28.

It was crazy!
WillPitt had a post up on my first day: CaliforniaPeggy is now a Lounge mod.
Everyone look busy.
so most of my functions there were acting as editor- making sure people complied with the rule that thread title must match headline, moving things that weren't LBN, combining duplicates, etc. What was enlightening was hanging in the mod lodge and seeing all the bad things like personal attacks, etc. Then there was the fun part where a mod who shall remain nameless accidently tombstoned themselves several times 
In all seriousness, that was pretty easy to do. I think someone even nuked Skinner once.
And no amount of begging and pleading is going to change my mind.

My children go back to school 2 weeks from tomorrow and I'm truly going to miss them...99% of the time.
DU has been so good for me over a decade, especially since I'm from a very blue part of the country, relocated and have been living in a red state hell all of that time....still am.

IMO: There are some wonderful volunteers for the next term.
And I agree, there is a good group volunteering and there is a good group eligible for a second term. Should be a great team to work with leading up to the midterm election cycle.
It's great to see you heading back to the war room in the penthouse.
In fact, in many ways MIRT restored my slightly lost faith in this place
I made some wonderful friends there.
