Related: About this forumThe General Discussion: Primaries forum is now open. Here's what you need to know.
This discussion thread was locked by Skinner (a host of the Announcements group).
If you were at DU during previous Democratic primaries, you'll recall that we filtered discussion of the primaries into a separate forum. We are going to do that again this time around. Here's what you need to know.
1. The Politics 2015 forum has been renamed General Discussion: Primaries and is now for exclusive discussion of the Democratic presidential primaries. Any new threads about the Democratic primaries MUST be posted in this forum. (Note: threads about the Republican presidential primaries are still permitted in General Discussion.)
2. Threads about the Democratic presidential primaries are now NOT PERMITTED in the General Discussion forum.
3. When you attempt to start a new thread in either GD or GD: Primaries, you will be prompted with an interrupt page to make sure you're posting in the right place.
4. If you post your thread in the wrong forum, be aware that Forum Hosts cannot move it to the correct forum. If the Hosts come to consensus that your thread is in the wrong place, it will be locked. It is up to you to make sure you are posting in the correct forum.
5. If you are sick of discussions about the Democratic presidential primaries, you can use the "trash forum" feature to hide those threads. To do this, go to the General Discussion: Primaries forum and click the "Trash this forum" button found near the top of the page. (Note: you can choose to undo this at any time.)
Thanks for reading,

No, I'm not betting the rent on it, either, but one can dream.

(4,775 posts)instead of locking them? Locking wastes discussion, incuding conversations that were already in progress.
Also of course there will be a lot of gray area around what is about Bernie or Clinton (for example) and what is about the primaries. Is most anything about a candidate, even if the actual topic is not specifically about the primaries, but say, about them, is that kind of thing also supposed to be in GD : Primaries?
I pretty much never start OP's so not relevant to me, but I'm thinking the better this is defined, the less violation of it you will see.

(34,582 posts)Then people should learn where to post their OPs- it isn't rocket surgery.
To the admins- thanks. The minority vocal supporter jackasses in all camps are grating on my nerves.

(4,775 posts)Has nothing to do with people being jackasses, which I'm sure most of us are guilty of some of the time. It has to do with something being on the wrong side of a loosely defined border between being about a candidate and about their primary candidacy.
No big deal to me, was just asking, my guess is it is difficult for the admins to move it, was curious though.

(34,582 posts)why this is so, but I don't know what it is. I do know that if, for instance, I posted a thread where it doesn't belong, I would be notified and could adjust accordingly. I hope my reply to you didn't come off as snarky, because that was not my intent.
On edit: the admins are hip deep in alligators dealing with malicious intruders (beyond MIRTs reach) and serial disrupters. As a 3 term moderator and 2 term MIRT, I cut them some slack. If you ever want a hint of the dark underbelly of DU, volunteer to MIRT. It is eye opening

(51,122 posts)Probably less. The primary will essentially be over on Super Tuesday in early March.

(11,175 posts)For example, it seems likely that we'll have a Democratic primary for the nomination to succeed Barbara Mikulski. Given that the new "General Discussion: Primaries" is "for exclusive discussion of the Democratic presidential primaries," I assume that posts about that race are inappropriate for GD: Primaries and should therefore go to GD. Is that correct?
Of course, such posts could always go to Maryland, but that race is an example of subjects that would interest many DUers outside the particular state.

(23,720 posts)as I assume like me- many don't scan the board for announcements every time they log in or participate in the administering of the forum. But thank you, this is what I asked for.
