Related: About this forumWe are now accepting new volunteers to serve on the MIR Team from December 2015 - March 2016
This discussion thread was locked by EarlG (a host of the Announcements group).
Volunteers who wish to help keep DU running smoothly should consider joining the Malicious Intruder Removal Team (MIR Team). The role of MIR Team members is simple: they are empowered to revoke the posting privileges of people who show up at DU with the intent to disrupt.
Members of the MIR Team are provided with tools to delete spam posted by people who have had their posting privileges revoked, but they are NOT responsible for removing community standards violations, locking threads, or dealing with violations of DU's Terms of Service wherever they may occur.
If you are a DU member with at least six months of membership, at least 1,000 posts, and proof of identity (ie. you are a Star member) then you can apply to be a member of the MIR Team. (Please note that if your Transparency page is displayed, you are disqualified from serving on the MIR Team.)
How do I apply?
Simple: just post in this thread to let us know that you'd like to give it a try, and you could be selected by the Admins. There is no application form to fill out, and no confidentiality agreement to sign. MIR Team members do not have access to any privileged information about other DU members.
We plan to introduce the new MIR Team on Wednesday December 2.
For much more information about the MIR Team, click here!
NOTE: If you are a current MIR Team member who is eligible to serve next term, please do not state your intentions in this thread. Instead, use the thread in the MIRT forum. Thanks.

(17,505 posts)..... I sometimes get real busy...especally during the holiday season (costumer, y'know) so I might miss a day or two of even getting on the CP. But I usually check in every day.
I enjoy DU, and have for years now. I think of it as a kind of E-Cocktail Party and want it to be fun and engaging.

(115,869 posts)It isn't like volunteering to be a Host where it you meet the qualifications you get it. There is a second part to bring on mry, Admin picks and chooses from those who volunteer.

(8,217 posts)Few things to mention however:
1 - I am a registered Independent.
2 - I tend to let things be since I tend to give people the benefit of doubt more often than not, which perhaps makes me naïve and unable to tell if one is trolling.
3 - I can be frustrating to some as I tend to not let most things bother me.
4 - I get busy, and usually am only on 9-5 EST, very few times on the weekend, and even then I am around sporadically. If told to be here at a certain hour however, I am willing to make a commitment at around 10pm-midnight most nights.
So, if you do consider me, consider me as a last resort as many others are far more qualified and less busy than I.
