Related: About this forumExpect occasional downtime over the next week or so while we upgrade our security
This discussion thread was locked by Skinner (a host of the Announcements group).
Over the next few days we will be implementing HTTPS, so that all of our visitors will be able to browse the site securely over an encrypted connection.
There is likely to be occasional downtime as we implement this upgrade, with little-or-no warning ahead of time. Any downtime that does occur is likely to be relatively brief.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we make this change.

Do everything you need to do to keep the site safe! We always need DU, but during this turbulent time it's even more important than ever.
Thanks for all you do.

(7,904 posts)Saying goodbye to javascript and flash helps retain your privacy but kinda sucks if you like watching video over the internet. Also understand that using a VPN may make you a target of government scrutiny.

I'm sure it's a target. Now more than ever, I'm sure the election night outage was malicious and might even have been russian.

(16,529 posts)I won't freak out when it happens. We DU addicts get punchy during outages.
