Harris Campaign on Border Criticism: Trump Wants to 'Rip Children From Mothers'

Source: Newsweek

Published Jul 24, 2024 at 2:38 PM EDT | Updated Jul 24, 2024 at 3:49 PM EDT

Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign responded to criticism from Republicans over her record on immigration Wednesday, saying that former President Donald Trump had made the issue about himself rather than securing the border. The GOP's attacks on Harris as so-called "Border Czar" under President Joe Biden, have increased since he endorsed her as the Democrat nominee on Sunday.

On Tuesday, during a campaign press call about immigration, Trump said he would be willing to debate Harris at least once in the run-up to November's election. Trump added that the vice president had failed to secure the border and claimed he would bring in local police departments to arrest illegal immigrants as part of his tough stance.

"The only 'plan' Donald Trump has to secure our border is ripping mothers from their children and a few xenophobic placards at the Republican National Convention," Harris campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz told Newsweek.

"He tanked the toughest bipartisan border security deal in a generation because for Donald Trump, this has never been about actually securing the border – it's always about himself," Munoz added. "He can make up whatever lies he wants but the fact is there's only one candidate in this race who will fight for real solutions to help secure our nation's border, and that's Vice President Harris."

We've been on defense for too many years.

I like this new being on the offense. I could get used to it.

remind everyone how Latin America has been ruined by guns flooding in from the USA.

Republicans are responsible for promoting guns.

Republicans are responsible for people fleeing guns.

I've been hearing a lot about it, but it seems like another pseudo-story.

9. It was a title made-up by the writer of a hit piece in Axios three years ago

Furthermore, Axios published a piece, also in 2021, entitled "Biden puts Harris in charge of border crisis" which is another lie. In fact, Harris was never put in charge of the border or immigration policy.
