Homeland Security designates next Jan. 6 as a 'National Special Security Event'

Source: ABC News

September 11, 2024, 8:10 PM

The act of certifying the presidential election results will now be given the highest security designation the federal government makes available, the Department of Homeland Security announced Wednesday.

Jan. 6, 2025, will now be designated a National Special Security Event (NSSE) by the Department of Homeland Security – on par with events like the Democratic and Republican national conventions. This designation allows for "significant resources from the federal government, as well as from state and local partners, to be utilized in a comprehensive security plan," according to the agency.

“National Special Security Events are events of the highest national significance,” Eric Ranaghan, the special agent in charge of the U.S. Secret Service’s Dignitary Protective Division, said in a statement.

“The U.S. Secret Service, in collaboration with our federal, state, and local partners are committed to developing and implementing a comprehensive and integrated security plan to ensure the safety and security of this event and its participants.”

since many of them are still facing legal consequences and/or would chicken out. Plus TSF isn't president so he has no control over federal agencies this time.

It's always good to be prepared just in case.

in "asymmetric" tactics to cause chaos.

Look at the power station attacks over the last decade or so.

Probably not mob action this time. They won't "fight the last war". They have some master strategists and lots of money to back them.

I will be delighted to be wrong.

Then again, I feel that this may be a last ditch effort on their part to re-take the white house. So I would be prepared for an even bigger attempt. This will be trumps final show, he will be desperate. So will many on the right. A loss this election will set them back by quite a few years.

...and a reasonable person would have expected all of their preparations to have been tracked, but no, nothing. We still haven't seen any of the planners, directors, facilitators, assistants, etc. As much as questioned, not even people that the whole world has seen on tape giving reconnaissance tours of the target location. Nothing. Just some trepassing charges to the pawns, that's it.

January was not expected to happen. There were no specific plans in place at the Capitol or the rally to handle it. They will not have a permit to be on the Ellipse after they lied about what they were going to do last time.

The Capitol Police won't tolerate it happening again. If there are any rioters they won't be able to get as close. There will be snipers in place.

I don't understand why you think it will be handled the same.

Think. Again.

To say that January 6 wasn't expected by the people responsible for protecting the Capital is disengenous at best.

If doj wasn't watching rightwing radicals then, in the middle of their most public years, after multiple threats, rallies, violent protests, etc. why do think doj is watching them now?

The US Marshal Service (USMS) maintains the Special Operations Group (SOG) which can respond to any national security or law-enforcement crisis in the US within six hours. The USAG is in charge of the USMS and can deploy the SOG for NSSEs. The USAG might consider deploying the SOG to Wash DC 48 hours before the electoral count at Capitol Hill.

Pres Kennedy deployed US Marshals in the South to protect students of color attending schools.

We’ve all seen the reporting. Right wing organizers are making concerted efforts to develop influence within the armed forces and various federal, state, and local law enforcement organizations. Remember all those highly trained kids they sent to Kuwait, Afghanistan, and all the other hot zones after Vietnam?

A lot of them returned home with one set of skills and nowhere and no reason to utilize them. Enter Trump and MAGA. In addition, targeted evangelical proselytizing in the Armed Forces, in particular, the Air Force has been intense and ongoing.

There are more Michael Flynn types in the military than we would like to admit. And don't get me started on the ‘constitutional sheriff’ bullshit which gives the aforementioned out-of-work denizens of the hot zones a place to be and to actualize and the color of law to do it…if the time comes.

Ive got my fingers crossed.

but, maybe it means there is even bigger J6 news loaded in the barrel being saved for later! I’ve read and heard the plan is to publicize heretofore unreleased J6 info and to keep the trickle of new indictments coming. And even though, Jack Smith isnt going to get his trials going in time, hopefully, he can file the occasional motion and brief to keep those cses in the news. On a recent podcast I listened to said that either HBO or CBS was had gotten the hours of raw video from the cameras that were with Pelosi that day, and that the vast majority of it had not been made public. Maybe the “October surprise” will be in there!

J6 is our best weapon. I’m sure Harris has some outstanding strategizers who have been working on a great plan. I cant wait to see it play out!

for those on-the-fence types who might act at the spur of the moment after fantasizing about joining a marauding mob. This might make some of them think twice. It won't stop the hardcore types but it can help to reduce the number of potential participants.

We have gone through 3 "January 6" anniversaries since the original event and there have been little or no incidents.

to Election Day, they can announce a planned deployment of the DC National Guard for 1-6-25. I think that would get some voters remembering and thinking as they go to the polls on 11-5.

We, as a country, have a lot of things we don’t need for the next four years, and a repeat of J6 is one of them. Anyone with a notion of heading to DC on 1-6-25 with ill intent needs as much disincentive as possible.

like they have done in prior years, so it will definitely be "well known" what they are doing (at least in terms of "public-facing" physical security).
