Attorney General Merrick Garland says Justice Department 'will not bend' to political pressure

Source: CNN Politics

Updated 12:24 PM EDT, Thu September 12, 2024

CNN — Attorney General Merrick Garland slammed efforts to turn the Justice Department into a “political weapon” during a fiery speech Thursday to department staff and US attorneys from across the country amid attacks from former President Donald Trump and his allies.

Garland decried the “escalation of attacks” against its career staff in years through “conspiracy theories, dangerous falsehoods, efforts to bully and intimidate career public servants by repeatedly and publicly singling them out, and threats of actual violence.”

“It is dangerous to target and intimidate individual employees of this Department simply for doing their jobs,” he said from the DOJ headquarters in Washington. “And it is outrageous that you have to face these unfounded attacks because you are doing what is right and upholding the rule of law.”

The attorney general’s comments come as Trump has claimed that the Justice Department has been weaponized against him amid his criminal prosecutions and suggested that he would politicize the department should he return to the Oval Office. Neither Trump nor his allies were mentioned by name.

Ask Hunter Biden who was prosecuted for a crime that is rarely prosecuted. Garland had to make Weiss a special counsel so that he could try Hunter in California

Meanwhile TSF stole 100 million dollars during Covid by claiming a 651 million dollar tax deduction on his tower in Chicago, formed a holding company and double dipped the deduction. DOJ and the IRS are nowhere to be found..

Prove he is, or you're casting aspersions on an ally of democracy as well as Joe Biden's nominated/confirmed AG.

Trump isn't eating anything but the time afforded him through lawyer argued due process through appeals -- any slowness of justice is due to the courts, not by the Garland DOJ.

Fine you are not bending.

Stand up straight and tall and do something about it.

If you don't, then you are bending.

...to political pressure is a more truthful statement.

He certainly bent over backwards to please the Heritage Foundation and the republican party while claiming to not want to show bias and such.

You can be sure he will pick a reliable boot licker who will prosecute anyone he is told to prosecute. The joy of our legal system is, even if you've done nothing, you must spend tens of thousands of dollars and months or years of your life proving it.

e.g.,, DHS & FCC.

Phone = FCC.

New Rules to Aid in Tracking Threatening Phone Calls

The DOJ field offices will work with the agencies that regulate this, to investigate and develop the cases, and those will get prosecuted by the local U.S. Attorney Offices where the crime occurred and/or where the perp was found.

It just doesn't make the "national news" but is often reported on the local news.

DOJ does not equal "the entire federal government".

but it doesn't always "make the national news" unless it is ready to be prosecuted and is against some V.I.P. Otherwise it might make the "local news".
